Anyone have tips for coffee shop? Long story short none of this guys comp is doing organic SEO so he is stealing tons of keywords. Anything generic like Coffee downtown Omaha = no chance he lacks authority.
I did a backlink anaylsis and notice no one is barely branding and they natural got their backlinks due to popularity.

like 80% of backlinks on some comp is travel blog, we did this post.

Is there a great ratio for backlinks with a coffee shop?
After some link building he is going to do very well for SEO organic and maps at least.

For a local coffee shop, focus on local SEO first Google Business Profile, citations, and reviews matter more than pure backlinks.

For backlinks, quality > quantity: aim for local blogs, food/travel sites, and niche directories. A rough ratio: 70% local/relevant backlinks, 30% broader niche. Consistency and relevance will outperform generic backlinks.

Here are some practical, realistic SEO strategies you can use for a local coffee shop even if competitors have stronger authority and naturally earned backlinks. You can outrank them on many terms with the right approach, especially in local search.

A coffee shop doesn’t need a perfect backlink ratio local + relevant links matter most. Focus on local directories, food/travel blogs, local bloggers, and Google Business reviews. Even 10–20 strong local links can beat competitors.

There isn't a "perfect" backlink ratio for local niches like coffee shops; instead, it's more important to keep things organic. Combining a few strong local citations, a few branded mentions, and a few niche-relevant links from food/coffee blogs is what works best in 2026.

It's actually good news if rivals are succeeding with haphazard travel blogs because you can outrank them with a more deliberate and clean profile.

You'll see major movement in both organic and Maps when you combine that with regular NAP, Google posts, and some local PR.

Local coffee shops get more SEO lift from a few real local mentions solid citations and niche relevant links than from big backlink numbers letting them outrank competitors quickly

Yeah,

the headache comes into explaining to this guy he needs still 50-75 relevant backlinks. I am seeing great results on a 2-3 months year old domain with little backlinks, citations and mentions.

For a coffee shop, focus on local backlinks first local blogs, directories, partnerships with nearby businesses. Quality quantity. Aim for mix of local/niche and general backlinks. Also, optimize Google Business Profile and get reviews these impact Maps ranking more than sheer backlink volume.

For a coffee shop, focus on local backlinks (blogs, directories, news). Travel links help, but local ones are more valuable. Aim for a mix, and link building will boost both SEO and maps.

Yes, I’ve done SEO for coffee shops before, and it’s one of the easiest local niches to push into the top 3 Google results if the basics are handled properly.
Most wins come from:
  • Google Business Profile + reviews
  • Local citations (Yelp, Maps, TripAdvisor)
  • Location-based pages like “Coffee shop in [city]”
  • A clean, searchable menu page (people search for drinks more than you think)
For example, menu-focused sites rank well because they structure drink categories and pricing in a way Google can pick up for long-tail searches.
Coffee SEO is mostly about local intent + strong menu content, not heavy link spam.

the main thing to focus on doing seo for a shop is doing seo for a local visitors, like optimising GMB and where ever local people looks for in searching

thanks for all replies, the SEO is going great for the business but the reviews are lacking, the business itself due to internal issues, lack staffing, owner being cheap, long wait times has suffered bad reviews. Other than a self imposed rating, the SEO is looking good.
