Gifmore is right on target. I sell an Ebook that I've never paid to market. It is a very specific market but I had a blog which I used to drive interest to the Ebook and used web 2.0 a ton!

I also recommend you split the book and if you're not a good copy writer than hire one who is, and really try to clarify your target market so that you can go after them directly.

The reason everyone points Ryan out is because he's well known in the IM world where most IMs aren't designers and don't have any sense for it. I can see a bunch of other better designers out there including as able or better than, and cheaper on outsourcing communities.

There's a bucketload of parasiting on the IM world with everyone scratching each other's backs and my guess is this guy, your regular designer guy fresh out of college, approached a bunch of IM figures and told them he would work for their campaigns for free in exchange for big shot testimonials. Result, instant-guru position.

I checked his covers and he's using both Monciardini's action templates and his own to setup the book standing while the actual cover he does it himself. They are average, averagely-good, relatively clean looking designs, nothing out of the ordinary. Having all this credibility allows him to charge a ridiculous $115 per ebook cover. Not bad for an hour or two of work. IMs don't know better, they aren't designers.

Go to any outsourcing community, find a design type you feel is average-good and ask for an ebook cover. The money you'll save on the difference you can then use to drive some traffic through PPC.

Luckily I don't need any designer, but if I needed to hire a colleague I would first set my first priority: budget. Depending on it, I would either choose to find them generally on the web or on the outsourcing communities. I would choose those that most please my eye and that I know did this this way did that that way, made some typographical nice trick here and etc, it's hard to explain but I would choose them on my own way. I would choose them and add them to my list and label them by commenting "good", or "average", "or mediocre-average design - good price to ratio quality though", etc..

Browse through the list of affiliate resources and consider having some or all of such resources (and no, that is not my website it was just a site I could remember, off the top of my head )

Which begs the question - is there any software out there that produces these webpages? I've seen them on a number of sites - and made a couple myself - but they are a pain to do for each product. There must be some bright person who has turned that chore into a pleasure?

I would also suggest getting some feedback/reviews before the launch. It'll help you out in several ways:

other peoples perspectives on the quality of your product.
suggestions/fixes to tweak your product before release.
you could use the reviews to market the product on your sales page.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to give your product to several people you can trust and that are the same type of people that your target audience represents. Even better if they're part of an affiliate forum, they could help you promote it to other affiliates.

You'd better also look at many other avenues or else you product could end up here...in error of course.

If it does, be sure to notify the Admins
