Using the same images across pages isnt treated like duplicate text content for seo it wont hurt rankings, though adding unique alt text helps.

Duplicate image - without making any changes to the title, and alt text may not harm your site, but it won't do it any good either.

This is how I use duplicate images.

I find an image that has not been duplicated, download it, crop it a bit, change the size, adjust the lighting, customise the title, add new alt text, and description.

Just to clarify, all the duplicate images are placed on my own website. For example, if my website is about LCD TVs, I have written hundreds of articles around long-tail keywords for a specific model of LCD TV, and the same image is used in all of those hundreds of articles.

In other words, it's just an image used in hundreds of articles, and of course, the alt text is one as well.

Does this kind of situation count as duplicate content? Will it hurt SEO?

Yes, it's duplicate content if you've the same image with alt text.

If you own the image and use it in a couple of pages with similar topics, it's still fine, but having it on hundreds of pages is bad for SEO - There's no how 1 image would fit in hundreds of topics.

I think that your content will likely hurt your SEO. It sounds like thin content to me. Like doorway pages.

I’ve seen many sites reuse the same images, and it usually doesn’t hurt SEO unless the whole page feels copied.
