Does OG image show in reddit posts?

Every time I link to my website on Reddit, while making a Reddit post, I see my websites post OG image while I am typing the Reddit post, but it never shows after the post is submitted. Does OG image show on reddit in the OP? Is there a specific size it should be to get it to show in the post?

Reddit doesnt always show the (OG) image for links in the post itself sometimes it only appears in previews when shared in comments or certain subreddits.

Reddit rarely displays OG images in posts and visibility depends on subreddit rules post type and link formatting

It’s my subreddit, there are no rules about it, and it was a hyperlink there wasn’t any formatting. So not sure I believe this but thanks

I think Reddit strips the OG preview on purpose to avoid linkbait posts, just a theory though.

It can be a bit inconsistent some subreddits display the og image automatically, while others only show it when the link is previewed or clicked. Testing different image sizes around 1200x630px usually helps.

Yeah, I’ve seen it happen on my own posts before sometimes Reddit just refuses to pull the og image even when everythings set up correctly.

Right thanks for clarifying. I am posting in my own subreddit and it pulls the OG image while I’m typing the post, but after submitted the OG image is no longer there.

There’s a few conflicting posts in this thread so I guess I’m going to have to experiment and see if there’s something we are missing

Just to be clear, you’re saying to add the link but no text in the post and OG image will show in the submitted post?

I think the best way, is make a normal post in Markdown, and attach the picture you want in the textarea.
That will make you have both text and link
If you only want link with OG image, you need to only share the link, and not all subreddits allow that

Yeah, thats classic reddit sometimes what you see while drafting doesn’t stick after posting. Experimenting is probably the only way to figure out the pattern.
