What's that "side project" you've been "working on" for years?

In 2019, I started building the "ultimate" project management tool for myself. It's now 2025, and I've rewritten it in three different frameworks. It has zero users (me) and is still 90% "almost done."


Every programmer seems to have one of these eternal side projects. It's our happy place of over engineering and procrastination.

AI helps for sure, but the training modules are where its hard. Those cannot be AI since there are too many variations of sign.

The missus is running some local websites and I've been building unnecessary features for them for years. Some of them actually get used by her visitors, so I'm hoping that's putting some money in her pocket on top of me enjoying doing something like that for her.

Maybe I will, the biggest issue was getting users to submit signs of different variations so I can build the training modules. Maybe this forum could help really push the progress of this app that has taken me so long already

Yes, I think we all have that project that lives more in our heads than on GitHub... In my case, I've been trying to implement an app (it's more of an idea) for a while now, related to sports, bike rentals, routes, and things like that in rural areas. It's quite complicated to implement, but I'm always thinking about it and looking for a way. I don't like to think it will be stuck forever; I might make progress, but very slowly! It's a bit frustrating sometimes!

What is your YouTube channel about? How many subscribers do you have currently? Last I checked I have 242 it's been slow... I've been throwing up videos for about 2 years. I have about 1 subscriber for about how every many videos I've done. 242 subscribers and around that many videos.

I have one that keeps pulling me back even though it never seems finished. It started as a simple tool to speed up some of my workflow, but every time I revisit it I end up rebuilding sections or adding another feature that no one asked for.
