What is GEO!

Short answer is "NO"
Don't think of it as SEO vs. GEO. Think of it as SEO evolving into "Search Ecosystem Optimization."

GEO is not the replacement; it's the new, most advanced channel within the search ecosystem. For the foreseeable future, a successful online presence will require a strategy that excels at both the traditional technical and link-based foundations of SEO and the authority and semantic-focused strategies of GEO.

I don’t think SEO will ever be fully replaced by GEO. GEO might just become an added layer or a new way to personalize search results, but SEO will always be the foundation of how people and businesses get discovered online.

GEO usually refers to geolocation or location based targeting. SEO won’t be replaced by GEO, but local and location based optimization will become more important. Google already uses location signals to show results, so combining traditional SEO with GEO strategies can help your site rank better for nearby users.

SEO will not be completely replaced by GEO; instead, approaches will be integrated as digital marketing evolves. combining both to ensure visibility and relevance in the digital space.

I don’t think SEO will be replaced by GEO. They’re kinda different things... GEO is more about location and targeting, while SEO is about visibility and ranking.

What’s more likely is they’ll blend together, especially for local businesses.

I think SEO will still matter, but GEO-targeting and local search will get much more important in the next few years

SEO ranking metrics no longer revolve around backlinks, keyword density, or user engagement and dwell time. Instead, they have shifted to: ① Information credibility, ② Website authority, ③ Individual contribution value.

Search experiences continue to improve in the GEO era. We must understand the information architecture algorithms demand: large-scale prediction models, website structure indexing, and user intent matching.

Future competition will pivot from rankings to content.

Ohh! What I understood is that one doesn’t affect the other and both are separate.

Yaa! After reading all the comments, I understood the topic. Thanks a lot!

Exactly. SEO and GEO will work best together, not against each other. Combining both helps build stronger online visibility and reach the right audience more effectively. Thanks!

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of optimizing content specifically for AI-powered answer engines like Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Gemini. It shifts the focus from ranking high on the search results page (SERP) to being cited or quoted directly within the AI-generated answer.

SEO won’t be replaced by GEO in the next few years. GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization, will enhance how content is discovered and ranked. Traditional SEO elements like keywords, backlinks, and site structure will still be crucial. Think of GEO as a new layer on top of existing SEO, not a replacement.

the way people are using AI, AEO will be the one which can change the game in future

I'm also following GEO, but I don't know where to start. Let's exchange ideas!
