You need to start a network where you've got a few people with all similar metrics and theme and you swap them about so you all get and send one link. More similar to an ABC link exchange.

Yeah, absolutely right getting genuine backlinks from local businesses is more effective. Direct exchange can be risky but the multi site strategy is a smart move.

Good point about quality references being important for local presence. You're right to be wary of direct swaps; search engine algorithms can spot that. If you manage different, relevant sites, it makes much more sense to get unique signals from them. It just looks far more organic.

You communicate with other SEOs through an anonymous email sort of link. That's the best way I can describe it. You communicate with someone who you need a link from and you can do an ABC exchange as another user mentioned. They have a free sign up so you can test it out. I've used it 3 times.

Quality over quantity definitely local backlinks from trusted sites beat random directories any day

Local backlinks carry weight especially when they come from relevant nearby businesses or community sites. Direct 1:1 exchanges can look sketchy if overdone but when links are relevant and spread across different domains or brands the risk is much lower. It’s anll about keeping the footprint natural.

Totally agree! Getting backlinks is still important for local SEO, but most of the time, random links don’t help much. I’ve noticed that links from real local businesses actually give much better results. Exchanging links with others who do local SEO seems like a smart way to get more genuine backlinks.
