My monthly views dropped from 1.2M to under 200K literally overnight. No policy violations, no major content change. I’m guessing Pinterest updated their algorithm again? Anyone else seeing massive traffic drops this week, or is it niche-specific (DIY, home decor)?

This would not be the first time such is happening. Definitely wouldn't be the last, your job is to keep pinning. Maybe monitor the kind of pins Pinterest is giving attention to and create such.

Good luck

Yeah, sudden drops like that usually happen after algorithm updates. It might be temporary, and engagement-focused pins often recover faster. Checking analytics and adjusting pinning strategy can help stabilize traffic.

It’s possible Pinterest made another algorithm update. Drops like that can happen when the algorithm shifts, even without any policy violations. It could be niche-specific too, as DIY and home decor are pretty competitive. Keep an eye on your analytics and experiment with new strategies sometimes it takes a little while for the algorithm to adjust again.

I saw a huge drop last week as well. Fresh pins are barely getting impressions now.

From my observation, Pinterest has likely shifted its algorithm toward fresh engagement, causing older viral pins to lose reach quickly.

Algorithm changes could be the culprit. It might not be niche-specific, but DIY and home decor are competitive. Refresh your content and keywords, and give it time for the algorithm to adjust.

keep making more accounts and create more content. the only way to combat bans/traffic hits is with more content volume.

keep scaling

Mine dropped almost 70% too. Looks like Pinterest is testing new ranking signals.

Sudden drops are frustrating, but sometimes stepping back and focusing on quality over quantity helps regain traction faster than chasing trends.

yeah i noticed the same, my traffic just tanked too. no idea if it’s the algo or just random, but seems like pinterest keeps tweaking stuff. i’m just trying to ride it out and focus on posting consistently, maybe things will bounce back.

Thanks for your reply. I haven’t made any changes for now — I’ll keep monitoring it for a while to see if there’s any improvement. Hopefully, things can turn around.

I’m hoping it’s just an algorithm fluctuation too. I’ve also made some content adjustments and hope to see some changes soon.

Competition in this industry is indeed fierce. I also tried to test it with different groups of people.

I'm trying different accounts to test and am seeing how it recovers.

this tents to happen due to spam / bugs / updates
I’ve updated the content, and the traffic has started to recover a bit, but it’s still not at the level I’m aiming for. I’m planning to keep posting new content to try and bring it back up.

Does anyone have any idea how to get a pinterest following. I've followed 90 people. None returned me back. I got thumbnails of posts Ive written and some others. My acc is still quite empty but I wouldnt think that noone would follow me back. I'm also Dutch and trying it in my own language. doesnt work as good as English I suppose but i see competitors who do have views :X

A sudden drop in traffic often indicates an algorithm update with some niches being hit harder and it may take time for traffic to stabilize

Did you do something before this happened? something like:

- Editing/Deleting old pins
- Editing/Deleting boards
- Editing profile's name
- Claiming/unclaiming the domain name

It must be something that caused this huge drop!

It’s probably an algorithm update. Pinterest has been tweaking the feed and smart search recently.

Yes, sudden drops are usually algorithm updates rather than niche-specific issues. Pinterest often reprioritizes content freshness, engagement signals, and topic authority, so older pins can see sharp traffic declines even without violations.

yup seen that happen. one user said their Pinterest CPC jumped and traffic dropped by half after what looked like an algorithm shift.
i’m thinking: test new creatives, swap targeting, check if your board/pin keywords still match what folks search. stay flexible and keep testing.
