Account locks -- how many before suspension?

I have a Twitter (X) account that's 10 years old and is an authority account with about 15,000 followers in a smallish niche. I got it locked twice in the past month for sending DMs with a link to sign up for my newsletter -- I sent too many or send them too fast. (I was sending 30 to 35 per day, spaced out.)

I had to pass a Captcha challenge.

Do I need to stop sending DMs? If it keeps getting locked, will it get suspended eventually?

Basically, how serious is a lock?

I realll want to keep sending DMs, because I get a lot of newsletter subscribers that way.

there’s no official cooldown but usually pausing for several days up to a week and using the account normally without blasting dms helps reset any spam flags gradually

I’d be cautious—locks are basically Twitter telling you you’re on thin ice. Maybe try personalizing messages more and cutting the number in half to stay under the radar.

Locks mean Twitter thinks you spam, and if it happens many times, they can suspend you, so it’s safer to send fewer messages in a better way.

I run a few fully automated Reply Bot accounts 24/7 with tens of thousands of Followers. I get locked once per day, it has been happening for over a year. So far 0 suspensions and I send between 100-500 replies per day (116k in total).

I don't think you should be worried about getting locked. It will only destroy your reach, but that's about it.

Thanks man. I wondered about this. I always worry about this account, though, because it's an important part of my newsletter project. I guess I'll get back to DMs soon, though -- taking a one-week break.
