Do hashtags even matter on Facebook anymore?

On TikTok and IG, hashtags can push content pretty far if you know what you’re doing. But on Facebook, I’m not sure if they make any real difference. I see people dropping 10+ hashtags on reels and still barely cracking 20 views.

So what’s the deal? Are hashtags on FB just cosmetic now, or do they actually help reach?

If you use 1-3 hashtags related to the topic, it will still help increase your visibility a little. Hashtags on FB are spices, not “main weapons”, so focusing more on content and keeping natural interactions will be more effective.

Hashtags on Facebook have a much smaller impact than on TikTok or Instagram. They can help categorize content and add slight discoverability, but reach mainly depends on the algorithm, engagement, and content quality - not the number of hashtags.

thanks for the insights!

Hashtags on Facebook are not as powerful as they are on TikTok or Instagram. While they are still functional — meaning users can search or click on them to find related content — their impact on reach and discoverability is minimal compared to other platforms.

On TikTok and IG, the algorithm heavily relies on signals like hashtags and user engagement to push content to new audiences. Facebook, however, prioritizes content based more on existing social connections, engagement history, and groups or interests, rather than public hashtag discovery.

Dropping 10+ hashtags on a Facebook Reel often doesn’t make much difference, because:

  • Facebook users don’t usually search by hashtags.
  • The platform doesn’t surface hashtagged content as aggressively.
  • Facebook Reels are still catching up in terms of algorithmic discovery.

Bottom line: On Facebook, hashtags might help slightly, but they’re not a game-changer. Focus more on engagement, sharing, watch time, and tapping into groups or communities if you want more reach.

Hashtags on FB are different from TikTok/IG. FB's algorithm prioritizes relationships + interactions over hashtags. Having hashtags helps classify content, but they are not the main factor in reaching. If Reels only have a few dozen views, the problem is often the content + viewership, not the number of hashtags.

I find that hashtags on Facebook are not as effective as they used to be. Unlike TikTok or Instagram, Facebook is more about engagement than hashtags.
Using a few relevant hashtags is good, but don’t expect too much. Good content, keeping viewers engaged and getting early engagement are the keys to reach.

Hashtags on FB aren’t as powerful as TikTok/IG. They’re more cosmetic—focus on engaging content and shares for real reach.

The problem I have is that even though I add many hashtags to Reels on Facebook, the reach is still very low, many posts only have a few dozen views.

Hashtags on Facebook do not increase engagement or reach as much as on TikTok or Instagram. Facebook prioritizes engaging content, keeping viewers engaged, and engaging them more than using a lot of hashtags. It is more effective to focus on quality content and stimulating viewers to interact.

On Facebook, hashtags don’t carry the same weight as TikTok or IG. They’re more cosmetic and useful for categorization/branding, but they won’t drive major reach — your reel performance depends more on watch time, shares, and engagement.

On Facebook, hashtags don’t boost reach like TikTok/Instagram. They only help with categorization and search. Reels are distributed primarily by engagement and view time, not the number of hashtags. Using 3–5 relevant hashtags is enough, focusing on content and keeping viewers engaged is more important.

On Facebook, hashtags are almost purely decorative and categorizing, no longer a strong reach lever like TikTok or Instagram. The algorithm prioritizes viewing time, sharing, commenting, and groups over hashtags. With Reels, hashtags can help a little, but they are not decisive. To increase reach, focus on the first 3 seconds of hooks, content that evokes interaction, and sharing in groups rather than stuffing hashtags.

Hashtags on Facebook in 2025 are no longer as important as on Instagram or TikTok. They only play a role in supporting search and content grouping, but do not really help increase reach strongly.

Hashtags on Facebook have a smaller impact compared to IG or TikTok, but they can still help with content discovery and organization

On Facebook, hashtags barely move the needle, they’re more cosmetic than a real reach booster. Reels rise from shares and watch time, not tags.

From what I’ve seen, hashtags on Facebook don’t have the same strong impact as they do on TikTok or Instagram. They can still help with categorizing content and giving posts a bit more reach, but the algorithm focuses more on engagement signals like watch time, shares, and comments.

On Facebook, hashtags still work but have limited impact compared to TikTok or Instagram.
They can help with searchability and niche discovery, but they don’t strongly boost reach.
Using too many or irrelevant hashtags can backfire, reducing engagement or looking spammy.
Best practice: use a few highly relevant hashtags instead of flooding your posts.

Hashtags on Facebook feel kinda hit-or-miss these days. Unlike TikTok or IG where they can really boost visibility if used smartly, Facebook’s algorithm doesn’t seem to prioritize them the same way. I’ve seen posts with a ton of hashtags barely get any reach, especially on Reels. It’s like they’re more for organization or searchability than actual discovery. That said, they can help a little if you're targeting niche communities or trending topics, but overall, I wouldn’t rely on them as a main strategy for reach on FB. Better to focus on engaging content and maybe timing your posts right.

Yes, i see. From my tests, hashtags on FB don't push content like TikTok. They still help a bit with categorizing posts, but you won’t see a big boost in reach just by adding more hashtags
