What often makes a difference, for those of you who have pushed past this barrier?
I've not pushed past this barrier recently, but in the past I have, and it's not always the same thing that solves the problem. Depending on the situation, it could be one of many things, such as:
- page 1 competition is tough, in which case you need to up the authority of your domain by pointing lots of strong backlinks to the homepage
- getting some internal links with exact anchor from relevant pages that are indexed
- content tweaking / updating (I have a suspicion that this is not the issue, but I'm still mentioning it)... just analyze the content of the guys ranking on page 1 and see how you can surpass their content in terms of value provided, grammar, user engagement, and intent (covering the topic in as much detail as possible)
- send some social signals to this page from aged accounts with constant engagement
The bounce rate is not bad, and the CTR is acceptable.
this further reinforces my suspicion that the competition is tough so you'll need a more authoritative domain to break into top 10. If your content and user engagement are good but you can't break into top 10 it's almost always an authority or trust issue...
And speaking of trust, if your site is in YMYL niches you might need better EEAT scores
