In 2-3 weeks I will start a forum and I was just wondering if anyone had some tips to share on how to get a active forum producing lot of content?

*The site will get atleast 300 visitors to the front page every day

Try this I used it in the past.

well either u can use that one or can use instgadi plugin old once those i know only !

Unfortunally it seems that forum generator (Found a crack :) ) only is effective when hosting the forum generator on a VPS or dedicated server. Unfortunally my site is hosted on lunarpages shared hosting :(

First of all get registered with a free forum software like vBulletin or phpBB or so and then proceed.

Go to phpbb and use their software, its the best imo.

Then feed it with leeched RSS etc.

Im kind of a noob when it comes to forums and things, but I recently set up a social networking site using buddypress and it seems to have more functionality than a forum. Anybody else using buddypress?

Offer free stuff related to your first 5 members that reach a certain post count.

I agree. I messed around and created a forum a while back for fun. phpBB is easy to set up and looks very professional as well.

vBulletin is not free; in order to use it, you must purchase a license. You can do this at http://www.vbulletin.com/order/http://www.vbulletin.com/order/

Ok here is my plan so far:

1. Make a phpbb forum with the theme supernova - Then customizing it a bit to fit for my game.

2. Having a contest where I say I give one year free membership... in the game. To participate you will need 10 posts.

3. I have a blog ranking for a guide keyword for the game. Will post the guide on the forum and block it for everyone with under 10 posts.

4. Accepting do follow links in the signature if the site is linking to my webage.

Anything else you will recommend? I have decided not to fill my forum with generated content

I see a lot of forum owners paying people to post on their forum to get some content which is a big help for new forums.

Erm, I've owned many successful forums in the past, and I don't recommend phpBB.

Check out MyBB: mybb(dot)com

Free, and imo the BEST free forum software. Really easy to use, nice looking themes, and loads of mods.

Good luck.

i have set up some small forums before, and always used phpbb. i thought it was really easy to get off the ground with... but mybb does look interesting.

Does anyone know where I can get that Forum Generator? I can't seem to find a download anywhere apart from expired information?

Thanks! :)

I've never had any luck monetizing a forum. Any plans regarding that?

I suppose if it is supporting a product you've developed... those seem to work.

Just curious what your angle is.
