Sidebar and footer links have their place, but nothing beats an in-content, contextual link.

Google clearly values links that live inside useful content over anything else. What do you guys think about it?

In-content links tend to be stronger since they flow naturally with the topic and add real relevance

Seconded . Always the best !!
You can’t go wrong with either of those .

Sidebar and footer links are actually an open invitation to Google penalties if you do them a lot.

Contextual links are the best. This shows Google that the link isn't just a basic ad.

Contextual links usually carry more weight because they align better with user intent and content relevance

Thanks for your insights, guys. Sure, contextual links are a better approach for creating long-term SEO value and also enhance the reader’s experience, which is something Google pays close attention to.

If you're using both links, what would be your ratio between the two?

I’ve only been in SEO for around 3 months, so still learning the ropes, but from what I’ve seen so far, contextual in-content links definitely seem stronger. They feel more natural for readers and align better with Google’s focus on relevance. Sidebar and footer links might have their uses, but I get the sense they don’t carry the same weight in terms of ranking power.

In-content links usually carry more weight since they connect directly with the topic and user intent

Contextual links should be your main focus, use them for authority and trust. Sidebars and footers work for structure, but keep them minimal. A good balance is 80–90% contextual and the rest structural.

Yes! you said right, contextual links will clearly gives the SEO value. Because they’re naturally placed, relevant, and more likely to be trusted by readers. While the sidebar or footer links are also okay but not strong.

I totally agree! In-content links are definitely the best because they’re part of the main content and feel more natural to both users and Google. Sidebar and footer links still have some value, but Google really loves links that are embedded in helpful, relevant content. It just makes sense for both SEO and user experience!

Contextual in-content links are where it’s at; they feel natural for readers and fit Google’s focus on relevance. Sidebar and footer links have their place, but honestly, they just don’t pack the same ranking punch.

Yes, totally agree with you. Contextual links are more natural than any other links. Google also values contextual links the most.

I agree — contextual links in the body usually carry the most weight since they’re tied directly to the topic and user intent. Sidebar/footer ones can still help for navigation or brand signals, but Google seems to give less SEO value to them.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Great to see you all focused on building quality links with strong content.

There are many other factors involved that will determine overall ranking. SEO is getting complex and harder with time.

That's true, when competition gets high, search engines make the play harder. Contextual links can provide a valuable advantage in boosting rankings.

yes but with condition. They work better when placed naturally rather than random insertions.
Google values such links.

Agree. Contextual in-content links usually carry more value because they’re relevant and placed naturally within the content.

Sidebar and footer links still help for structure and navigation, but for SEO impact, contextual links tend to work better.
