Is page speed still a strong ranking factor?

Google keeps emphasizing user experience, and page speed is part of that. But I wonder if page speed truly affects rankings, or if it’s only important for user engagement and conversions. Have you noticed any ranking improvements directly after optimizing site speed in recent projects?

Page speed does impact SEO but primarily improves experience, reduces bounces, and increases conversions; rankings only improve significantly when combined with content and overall SEO.

I have.
Now I remember life before the internet and the pain of connecting via dial up so waiting a couple of seconds for a page to load is not a big deal for me but we are living in the era of tiktok and instant gratification and yes, users will bounce more. Part of it is impatience and part of it is about confidence; when a page takes time to load you can't help but wonder if there is not some kind of malicious script running in the background. Slow loading looks unprofessional and untrustworthy.

That being said, I worked on a website which ranks very well now and is still slow as molasses because the owner insisted on having all those widgets, bells and whistles in his front page (it's ridiculous ) so I really put in the works in other areas to counterbalance it.

Page speed by itself doesn’t boost rankings much. What it really does is improve user signals, people stay longer and bounce less on faster sites. The best results usually come when you speed up the site and also improve content.

Page speed does play a role in rankings, but the bigger impact comes from how it affects user experience. When a site loads faster, users tend to stick around longer, which helps lower bounce rates and boost conversions. So, while improving speed can help rankings in an indirect way, it's just one part of a bigger SEO picture. A faster site usually does perform better overall, but it’s not the only thing that matters for ranking.

Page speed mainly boosts user experience and conversions, but it can also slightly impact rankings. In my experience, sites with faster loading times tend to perform better overall, but speed alone usually isn’t enough to move the needle drastically.

Page speed is still important, but it’s more of a tie-breaker than a main ranking factor. If two sites have equally good content/links, the faster one usually wins. From my experience, speed improvements help more with bounce rate + conversions than raw rankings. That said, super slow sites can definitely get held back in Google.

Speed alone won’t cause a huge ranking jump. It’s more of a factor when sites are otherwise similar. The real benefits are usually on the user side like lower bounce rates, higher engagement, better conversions.

ve seen slight ranking boosts after improving site speed, but the bigger impact tends to be on user engagement and bounce rates. It's more of an indirect SEO win.

It's all about keeping visitors on your site. If it's slow, they're gone, which kills conversions. Any platform wants to send people to good experiences, so a sluggish site doesn't look great. You won't always see an instant jump in how visible your site is just from speeding it up, but it definitely helps your user engagement metrics. And those metrics have a big impact on your overall position over time.

Yes, page speed still matters. I noticed small ranking boosts after improving load time, but the biggest change was in user behavior - lower bounce rate and more time on page. It's not the main ranking factor, but it definitely helps overall SEO performance.

Page speed is a strong ranking factor. It's not the most important factor, but it definitely supports your site's overall SEO.

Faster pages provide a better user experience, which Google likes to "reward" and therefore, page speed is surely a ranking factor. But, remember, page speed is just one ranking factor among many, so do not ignore the other ranking factors.

Site's speed is like a seasoning to your recipes, it's not what actually makes your meal taste good, but your meal won't taste good without it.

Site's speed is a ranking factor, but just like other factors, it can't rank your pages.

It enhances users' experience and lets Google understand that users love your site.

A poorly loaded site will have poor user engagement, so it's hard for Google to keep pushing such a site to its search users.

I installed WP Rocket to improve my site's speed recently, and it improved, but there's no improvement in ranking , but It helps the ranking process.

Good question, from my experience, improving page speed alone rarely causes a big ranking jump, but it definitely strengthens overall site health. Faster pages reduce bounce rates and improve engagement metrics, which indirectly help rankings over time. It’s more of a supporting factor than a direct ranking booster.
