Seo Duplicated content question

Hey, i want to know what is the pros and cons of using the same content of a website i already have for a specific city and use it for another city. All i will do is change the city name. I want all of my traffic to be organic.
For example, lets say i build a website to rank for a keyword "car sales in new york" . Can i go and make 10 websites with the same content and just chance the city name and get to number 1 on google?

Duplicate content banning is a lie mate. Don't be worried about using the same content. However, I always like spinning it just so it doesn't appear to be the same content.

There may be some sort of penalty. However, I have auto blogs with 100% duplicate content that outrank some legitimate site so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

You might not get banned, but getting dup content indexed is harder. Just make sure you have a different theme.. etc so at least whole code doesn't look the same

That's an interesting question posed in a way I hadn't seen before.

My guess is that duplicate content would be just fine in this case. My reasoning to that conclusion is based on established national advertising. To wit: imagine google's response if some nut wrote them demanding they take action against Coca Cola for dupe content on the grounds that the latest Coke commercial is "being spammed all over the Internet on local business web pages!"

Advertisements (at least some advertisement) would logically have to be exempt from dupe content and spam penalties.

I believe cases of overt duplicated content are "sometimes" caught by Google. They have an algorithm of some sort that determines the original source of the content. That site gets all the traffic in most cases. Sometimes the sites are rotated, from what I've heard, but that's rare.

If your original site hosting the content is outdated, you're going to want to change this. You can contact Google using a specific site (I forget the name). It's similar to how they sort multiple domain names. They don't want one site having www.abbbc1,2,3, etc" up top search result ten. They pick one at their discretion unless told otherwise.

There is no actual content penalty "explicitly." Most of the time I don't think they even come across the issue. Content is spammed across multiple sites all the time (news, humor, etc). The problem you may have is this. You want your new site to get the search results. Your site is black hat. They make the change and realize this. I am not sure if they actually check the site (I doubt it), but you never know.

Duplicate or not, the goal will alway be to rank them. I know someone who have 5 website with duplicate content, but not the same brand of object, and he's doing fine.

Dup content is ok..I do auto blog for 3 years already..but in your case its hard to get organic traffic because your competitor is your own site..

Duplicate content will get indexed. The question is will it end up in the supplemental index.

In your case if you are promoting a local business you're not going to have as much of a problem. But if it's just the same exact template over and over again without business information then it won't be as competitive.

It's easy to out rank people when you're going for local search stuff if it's not a heavily competitive local niche.

What you should do is use different templates for each site so they don't look identical. If the keywords aren't competitive then just tweak the content a little.

If these are actual business listing pages then it's even easier since the address will show a different location making it slightly more unique.

Make sure you check to see how competitive the google map box is. That's where the money is at. Most people only look there for local searches.

I have a local auto repair site that ranks number 3 in SERPs but gets like 10 visitors a month for a term that gets 1500 searches a month.

I never publish same content on other site. I only submit one article on one site it might be blog or article directory. But yes when I have to submit to other site, I first spin the article so that the article not look like duplicate content.

I have made researched on duplicate content. What I see that the article published by duplicate content never cached by google or it take long time to be cached. Again if there is no issue with duplicate content then why we just not copy of ezine content and publish on other article site.

So better is only publish unique content if you wannna get quality backlink.
