Problem generating custom-sized images with AI (any solutions?)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with AI image generation tools (MidJourney, DALL·E, Leonardo, etc.), and I’ve run into a consistent problem: most tools only generate images in fixed sizes (e.g. 512×512, 1024×1024).

My actual need is for much more specific dimensions, for example:

• 150×150 for avatars
• 250×100 for banners
• 100×300 for tall/vertical images

Basically, the combinations are unlimited.

I’ve also tried using “aspect ratio” prompts, but even then the AI still outputs images in its own standard resolutions instead of exactly matching the sizes I want.

So my question is:

What methods, tricks, or tools can I use to generate images in exact custom dimensions?

Or is the only practical way to generate in the default resolution and then crop/resize afterwards?

Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations

Most AI tools don’t generate exact pixel sizes, only ratios. The usual approach is to create the image in the closest resolution then crop or upscale to your needed dimensions.

If you want exact sizes, try tools like Stable Diffusion with ControlNet/Img2Img where you can set canvas size directly, or use an upscaler + crop workflow with Photoshop or free tools like GIMP.

Have you thought about using SD locally with plugins for precise outputs?

Most AI tools stick to fixed sizes, so the usual way is to generate at the closest resolution and then crop/resize in Photoshop or Figma. Haven’t seen any generator that gives exact custom dimensions yet.

Why not try this; use Ai to generate an image close to the aspect ratio you want and then use Canva to resize

Some tools offer an 'inpainting' or 'outpainting' feature if you need to extend an image beyond its initial bounds, then you can crop. But for strict custom dimensions, post-processing is generally unavoidable.
