Do you brainstorm domains or use a tool ?

if I'm trying to find fresh domains I usually employ the use of free "business name generator" type of sites, in conjunction with "bulk domain availability checker" type of sites.
When used along each other, these 2 types of sites have always found me at least several cool / interesting domain names (of course, I still use my own brain too along with these) in the past such as:
- winkycar.com (an Amazon affiliate site I had for car headlights)
- justbeatit.net (a Clickbank affiliate site for selling beats making software)
- laptopti.me (in hindsight, this name has never been cool, I don't know why I thought to be cool at that time, but - weirdly - it's been one of the easiest ranking sites that I've ever had, probably because the laptops industry is so big that you can rank for literally 1000s of long tail keywords without effort, which is what I did cause I remember some of the keywords that were making me money for this site were like 15-16 words long
)
- greatly.fit (a health & fitness affiliate site that I actually never did anything with, I just bought the domain at a time when I was domain hoarding, and I had so many ideas and projects on my hand that I neglected many of them - because I've always been a single dude, doing everything on his own - so I didn't get the chance to use this domain, but as you can see, it's a very catchy, short, and even brandable one I dare say)
- braintackle.com (this one I've purchased for something related to some psychology stuff, I wanted to turn it into a big authority site on psychological topics like NLP, hypnosis, etc... but again, I bought it at a time when I was purchasing like 3-4 domains a week and I barely had time to use many of them due to the fact that I would manually and all by myself build sites, research and create content, do link building, etc... so it took me like 1 month to build one site but I was getting like several dozen domain names a month - on offer, of course, and I would let them expire 1 year later due to high renewal costs that I couldn't keep up with LOL)
- diycostume.fun (with this one I was trying to promote a DIY costume making course from Clickbank that was having very good commission structure, but once again - due to me being the only human doing all of the work, I didn't have time to ever use this domain, so I had to let it expire)
- esoterical.me (one of the domains that I'm most proud to have found on my own - with the help of the 2 types of sites that I've mentioned in the beginning, but I had to let it expire because I had just learned few days / weeks after I had registered it that the .ME extension represents the country of Montenegro, and that was a heavy blow for me because I've always associated .ME with... well... with one's self, of course ... and the esoterical part is a short, broad word that could make for a great authority site in the Esoterism niche, a niche that I could see myself operating in since I have inclinations towards this area)
- goodcarwork.com (a car repair related website... also never did anything with it due to lack of time)
- mygecko.pet (also one of my proudest acquisitions - in the leopard gecko niche if it's not obvious... I even published high quality content - manually researched and written all by myself, of course - on this domain and I think I even made the site live, although I don't remember... I had to let it expire because of google constantly tanking my sites with their updates and my lack of motivation in continuing being google's slave... I think this was the last project that I ever undertook before I decided to quit SEO altogether... even now it hurts me to have let such a great domain name expire, but alas, I'm just a simple man doing SEO casually but fighting against whole armies of SEO elites, so yeah... another goldmine down the drain
- parentsfix.com (had a parenting site in mind for this one, never done anything with it, as usual)
- pencildrawing.fun (another affiliate project, meant to promote a pencil drawing course from Clickbank, it expired just like all of the others, sadly)
All of these domains I have found with the help of the 2 types of sites that I've mentioned, it usually took me a few hours of research to come up with most of these domain names, but a great domain can have a great first impression for some people, so it's worth frying your brain trying to find something that sounds cool, interesting, short, catchy, brandable, or any combination of these...
Also, as you can see, many of these domains are NOT .com, which is not bad since some of these niches could make better use of other TLDs.
For example, the JustBeatit.net domain - if I remember correctly - also had the .com version available when I've registered it many moons ago (I think over 12-13 years ago), but - due to the fact that I was promoting an online software / course - I figured that a .net extension would sound better for this type of site than a .com, so I purposely went ahead with registering the .net version
Likewise with the pencildrawing.fun and diycostume.fun domains: I think one of them did have the .com available at that time, but when I did research for these 2 niches I noticed a lot of keywords mentioning fun, hobbies, coolness, etc... so I thought that a .fun extension would be more fitting for such a project, than a cold, business-like .com ... Sometimes, you gotta hit your audience's emotional spots in order to turn them into customers, and I felt that .fun would be more appropriate for this than .com...
Last but not least, the greatly.fit one is a great example of why you would want to prefer a .fit (or other related words) for a gym / fitness type of niche website instead of a .com. Of course, a .com would work just fine, SEO-wise, but again - I like to be cool and interesting with my sites, otherwise I feel that I'm making both myself and my audience bored if I go with the soulless, business-like .com all the time, especially if the project is on crafts & hobbies

I usually start with brainstorming a few ideas, then run them through domain search tools to check availability and possible variations. Some people also use expired domain finders for parking potential.

if you are looking for domains with backlinks, tools are way better, but if you are trying to register a new domain, then AI is way better for that
