Proxy or VPN, help me decide because I'm lost in this hole.

Hey everyone!

Since joining this community I learned so much things (which I thank you for a lot) but also got confused on another ones, like the proxy vs. VPN battle.

I started a small, local business and want to do some social proof hacking: creating profiles for a bunch of social media channels (ig, x, reddit, telegram) and do engagements and also leave reviews everywhere I can (google, trustpilot, etc). I am getting familiar with the use of Dolphin Anty, but still unsure what to use for anonimity reasons.

In the long term, I am really interested in this "world" and would consider offering this as a service to others (maybe even abroad) as a side hustle, so I really want to dig deep into this.

VPN's can work fine in the beginning but websites don't trust VPN users the way they trust a normal user which is what residential proxies make you look like. This is the main advantage

For your goals, I highly recommend using mobile proxies instead of VPNs.

For your use case, proxies are better than VPNs. VPNs are great for personal privacy, but proxies are better for controlled identity management at scale.

VPNs are cool but can easily be flagged by some platforms like Reddit and Trustpilot. A mobile or residential proxy is better and looks more real.

think about it this way, vpn is system-wide, proxy is for an application. i'd just take whatever is cheaper and has good IP reputation, for me personally that means residential or mobile proxies, I don't really use VPN because I want to have several IPs available on my machine, but if a good quality vpn was cheaper, i'd take it

From what I’ve seen, VPNs are only really suitable when you’re managing one account long term, like if you’re just using a single account to post or comment. But if you’re creating and managing multiple accounts, I’d definitely lean toward proxies. Right now I’m using Hidemyacc with proxies for all the social media accounts I manage, including when posting reviews on Trustpilot. As for Google, I haven’t worked with it yet, but I assume it’s similar

whats the difference between dongles and real 4G mobile proxies? do u use a real mobile phone? is that slower or laggier compared to dongles?

We used to use dongles, but now we only use real smartphones. The advantages: the Android fingerprint is genuine and comes directly from the device. Also, smartphones generally support much higher LTE categories — most dongles only support CAT 4, while we use phones with CAT 16 and above.

Dongles require USB hubs, a mini server, and separate internet access. With real smartphones, you only need the device — that's it. It's mobile, flexible, and extremely easy and cost-effective to get started.

In your case you have to use residential proxy. Though these are little bit pricey but works better than vpn.

On the contrary, I don’t think there’s much of a debate between residential proxies and VPNs — they cater to different users and needs.
