SaaS VS AI agents: What will the future be?

Hello BHW,

I'm seeing how easy it has become to create apps, SaaS, micro apps, Chrome extensions, plugins... with the help of AI and a little programming knowledge/notion.

I'm also reading in many places that AI agents will replace most SaaS, but not only agents, we also have to take into account AI´s like Operator and similar that can do the work of some apps, SaaS, extensions, etc.

What do you think will be the future of the SaaS, apps, extensions... business?

Will it be better to focus on creating AI agents instead of software (SaaS and similar) or will both have their market?

Things are changing quite fast, maybe in two years AI agents will also be replaced for a new concept, for now, they are a good business to invest and learn

this is like asking "will cars replace planes".

Both saas and AI agents have their place. Neither is replacing the other.

And it's not like you can't ship an ai agent as a saas. A saas is just a business model. The model of selling software as a service.

If you sell your ai agent for doing certain tasks for your users instead of a general license, you have already shipped your AI agent as a saas.

Nowadays, AI is popular. However, no one knows what will happen in the future because everyone will use it. The most important thing is still people.

AI agents are definitely changing the game, but SaaS isn’t going anywhere. Most users still want stability, a clear interface, and control — things traditional software handles well. The smart move now is to use AI inside SaaS, not replace it completely. Agents and SaaS will coexist; the way we build and package tools is just evolving.

Once AI agents can transact with eachother in an autonomous and reliable manner there will basically be no need for saas. I just DM an AI agent and it pays other specialized AI agents to get the job done. Why would I bother spending time learning how to use software, no matter how good the UX design it can never be perfect for everyone, but typing or voice to text? Everyone can do this, no investment, no learning curve, no frustration, service providers just create a chat interface with a mic or use some social media platform that people are already using anyway as an interface so it will even be cheaper! And let's admit that it's quite cool to have AI agents do the work for you.

Honestly I think both will likely have a place. AI agents are great for dynamic, task based workflows but SaaS apps still win for reliability, structure, and compatibility in many industries.

SaaS isn’t going anywhere, but AI agents are eating up the “one-trick tools” fast. The real future might be hybrid: agent front-ends with SaaS back-ends. Whoever nails both wins the market.
