Is Facebook group worth running?

How many members does your group have? If it's large and active, you can charge for posts and pinning services on your group page on a monthly basis to help fund your group.
34000. Most activity is from people wanting to post their products for sale. The post reach varies from 10-2500 views for each post. I am not sure this lot will be interested in paying to promote or pin their posts. They might be in it only because it is free. But I will still try to charge for pinned posts once before giving up entirely. Thanks for your input.

Facebook doenst allow you to monetize it? Thats not true. If you can post links then you can promote. I used to have dozens of groups back around 2017 spread over several accounts. I started back around 2012 when i used to be able to get super cheap clicks. Those days are long gone though in most niches. I paired a page with most of the groups and then cross promoted many of them. I kept getting complaints from facebook about using others content even though only about 5% was being shared and not posted. The other 95% was 100% original. There was 0% scraped content. They shut down 2 of my biggest groups and then 2 of my accounts. It pissed me off enough that i decided not to bother with them anymore. You cant trust them. The remaining accounts i basically just started trying to put everyone on email lists or used them to promote other socials Especially youtube. If you can make lots of original video content quickly and monetize with facebook ad overlays if they allow it. Might be the best bet but it depends on your niche. Maybe partner with someone that can help you monetize it. These days id rather pay a group or page to promote some link to some offer off facebook. I still run fb ads but it takes people off facebook. The organic reach keeps dropping on all pages and groups. With SEO traffic possibly drying up significantly going forward and video still growing i think its a no brainer to go with more video content over articles and images.

How many members does your group have and what is the topic of your group activities? Think about it. If you don't want to operate anymore, find a partner to sell it at a reasonable price. If not, you can make money by renting out pins, sharing links, and content.

Hi all,

I had started a Facebook group long ago along with my page which is very active. The group was not active but eventually it started attracting a lot of members who are now posting their work/business sales posts. I would have just let it run on its own if that was possible. Women come together, post their business offerings, respond to each other - good for them! But the group is bursting with activity and it takes a lot of time to keep approving posts and members, look after reported content, delete spammy posts and ban members.

On top of that, Facebook keeps telling me that they removed “my posts” because it was spammy. They are posts made by members of course. Then Facebook gives me a warning as well. I have used the Facebook assist features to reject posts with words like “jobs”, “hiring”, “vacancy” etc. but the spammers know how to bypass that.

To make a long story short, I was just wondering if it is even worth it to maintain this group. There is no way to monetize it. Facebook doesn’t allow you to. I don’t wish to spend my efforts doing anything that isn’t going to pay me.

Should I just close the group? Or can I sell it (not a straightforward way to do that as well, last I checked), or is there some other way to make it worth it? I just wanted to check with you all before taking any decision.
A good tip for you is not to delete the group. Keep it and you have many other benefits, such as:
- Shifting your business goals to another field so that the old topic is not noticed as spam.
- Or renting the group, allowing others to post, pin posts on your group and charge a fee.
- Transferring the group to another individual/business and earning a fee.

I think it's worth keeping, you're making a positive contribution to the community, don't let small benefits ruin big benefits.

If it’s becoming an issue for you to maintain then close it

But then I think it is worth keeping
You’re making a lot of impact there

You should keep the team, if you don't want to manage, hire an assistant or transfer management to maintain the team while still benefiting.

What is the average response rate for each post... meaning, if someone posts something in the group, on an average how many comments, and likes the post gets?

It's up to you, you could do sponsored posts or you could create a landing page and build an email list.

With a group that has many members and good engagement, you can post to receive advertisements. You will need to manage the moderation of that group's posts more closely

Ciao a tutti,

Grazie

Yes, Facebook groups are still worth running in 2025. They build strong communities, boost engagement, and offer organic reach better than pages in many cases.

I’d hire a cheap VA to moderate and keep it alive instead of closing it.

There is small difference between pages and groups , groups are more for community engagement on the other pages are for branding and advertising

No, I did not find a viable solution that makes it worth the time and effort it requires to maintain it. The spam got overwhelming. People started posting shopping offers and people who bought from them (it’s a women’s group and shopping is an essential part) started complaining to me about not receiving their order or getting scammed etc.

Finally, I have paused the group. To delete it, Facebook says I have to remove all 34000 members manually. That is ridiculous - they don’t even have a bulk deletion feature. So I have just paused the group.

Yes, running a Facebook group is worth it if you want to build a community, share updates, and connect with people who are interested in your niche.
