I have tested silo structures on a few small niche sites under 100 pages, and while the difference isn't massive short term, I’ve noticed stronger indexing and slightly better average position over time when the internal linking is intentional. It seems to help Google connect topical relevance better, especially if content is tightly grouped by intent.
That said, for low-competition niches, even flat blog layouts can perform well if on-page is solid. I still build light silos, but more for navigation and crawlability than for ranking boosts alone.
