Are AI Chatbots Affecting Brand Traffic from Google?

Hello everyone. Like many others, traffic is falling from Google. But I noticed this feature, we have a project management tool, if you look at the Google console for a brand request, like "jira" (this is an example, I don't work at Atlassian), then at the same time, for such requests, if you look year on year, the traffic was 30-40% less. That is, all requests give less and less traffic from Google, and for this request, there is a 30-40% increase year on year. And so I thought, maybe this is due to the fact that if you request something in AI chatbots, then you are given only the names of brands, without links to their sites. Perhaps people request these names in Google later, or am I delirious? Where does the growth of brand traffic come from?

Has anyone encountered an increase in brand traffic from Google?

It's possible, maybe AI chatbots are mentioning your brand for some queries and people are organically searching for your brand name. I'm using it on Reddit, 99% of my traffic comes from brand name queries, AI can do something similar

Have your sites in Google become more branded traffic? Year on year?

Has anyone encountered this? Maybe someone has other ideas?

Any ideas?

Yes, AI Chatbots may reduce generic clicks but boost brand searches, as users often google names mentioned without links.

You're onto something, AI chatbots often mention brand names without links, sparking curiosity. Users then Google them directly, which could explain the YoY brand traffic growth.

It’s not killing all traffic, but it’s reshaping it. Brands now focus more on visibility in AI answers, building topical authority, and owning unique content that chatbots can’t easily summarize. So yeah, it’s happening, just not in a “one-day-you’re-gone” kind of way.

You apparently didn't understand the question.

The fact that AI chatbots account for only 2.96% of search traffic should be a wake-up call—not of insignificance, but of transformation. Even if traffic isn't coming directly from chatbots, brands should aim to be referenced within AI-generated content. This includes: Structuring content for featured snippets.

This is very old data 2.9%, I think now it is already close to 10%.

The average person is extremely lazy. That's why the AI stuff has taken off so fast. It's doing writing, school, emails... It all stems from the laziness of humans. Now they don't even have to parse info on Google, AI does it for them.

This is all clear, the problem with AI chatbots is that they do not immediately give links to tools, products and services. It is easier for me to copy the name from the AI chatbot output and request it in Google and immediately get the site where I need to go. Than to request the same name in a conditional Chatgpt and get a bunch of unnecessary information and only in the middle or at the end of the generation a link to this tool, I ask about this. Or am I the only one doing this, and everyone remains in AI chatbots and asks there about specific tools?

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same. Feels like AI tools name-drop brands without links, so people end up Googling them after. That could explain the branded traffic boost — even while everything else drops. Definitely not just you.

How much have your brand queries increased year-on-year?
