I was just doing a general search, and all of a sudden, at the top, there's a new category. Perhaps, with all the updates, it's always been there, but I had never seen short videos in the tab above before. I suppose videos are occupying two spots in the search results for people searching.

Just now saw this wow Google pushing lot of short videos from Insta,Youtube,Fb, pinterest, amazon too
Youtube shorts occupy 99% of suggestions

Yep, the tendency of Google is relying on less in sites for results, with AI on top of all. Then a couple of blocks of special content, followed if possible by reputable sources or user-generated content from trustworthy SM like Reddit. By the end, regular sites, which are being blasted by AI. So its not going to be rare to see this and other SCRB dominating first positions in pretty much all keywords, even in long tail ones.

Oh wow... I would not have noticed this if you hadn't shown it like this :D

I can see it too. I noticed the position change according to search term and search intent.
By the way, it's not just YouTube shorts, Pinterest, Tiktok and Instagram are also included.

But I don't think it'll be nice for shorts to be viewed on desktop

I saw it a few months ago, I think last year. Maybe it was a temporary test and now it's back, I don't know. In the future we will see only answers from AI and short videos it seems

Google has been pushing short videos more in search, especially from YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. It's part of their shift toward visual, quick content.

It doesn't mean youtube shorts just I don't think. As I clicked on a video, and it was a widescreen video. So I think, its to save time, when searching for short video content, video must be ruling if they need 2 video tabs! lol

That's a very sharp observation. The new "Short videos" tab is a significant development and signals Google's strong commitment to short-form video. The search results confirm that Google is now prioritizing video content and giving it prime real estate in two separate locations. This creates a huge opportunity for creators to capture organic traffic by optimizing their short-form content for Google Search, not just for a platform's internal algorithm. It's a clear move to compete with platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

I also noticed this just a couple of weeks ago. It appears in many countries, including the US, Germany, and France. It probably makes sense now to shoot short videos on your topic to use this as an additional source of traffic.
