How often do you really check your anchor text profile?

A lot of folks get obsessed with building links but completely ignore the anchor text breakdown.
I recently reviewed one of my old client’s sites and realised they were using the same keyword anchor across dozens of links. No surprise they started slipping.
Personally, I review anchor profiles every couple of weeks and tweak as needed either by diversifying with branded anchors or softening the match.

Curious how often others are checking and adjusting? Or do you just leave it until something breaks?

Good point, a lot of people still treat anchor text as an afterthought, but it's one of the clearest red flags when things go south. I tend to audit anchors roughly once a month, especially after link pushes or when rankings wobble.

What really helps is pre-classifying each link by intent (exact, partial, brand, URL, generic...) and tracking ratios over time. That way you catch imbalances early, before Google does. Also makes it easier to justify link adjustments to clients when needed.

I think it should be adjusted beforehand. I always try a combination of brand keywords, related keywords.

I rarely check them. I build the links myself, so I moderate during link building.

I rarely check, but definitely not over optimizing my anchors since I don't target any KW anymore

Totally agree ,anchors are where a lot of people slip up. Everyone’s chasing DR or blasting links, but if the anchor mix is off, it leaves a big footprint. I usually double-check mine after every new round, especially when I’m using exact-match. Even small changes in anchor variety can seriously change how natural the profile looks.
