2010 Linkbuilding Essentials, Ways & Myths - Tested by Seb

Thanks nice post seb. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I completely agree with your policy about no follow links.

Please explain this phrase from OP post. How do we find them, go about doing this?

"# "Google News" inclusion of your Press Release in different PR sites. These sites which guarantees Google News inclusion are further syndicated in thousands of other social networking & bookmarking site and news blogs."

Thanks for the share. I like how you pointed out the life span vs relevance of niche factor

your view on Nofollow links is 100% correct i too see nofollow backlinks are counted in google webmaster central

Really impressed with this post. A lot of useful experience included which is always good. You have helped just back up most of my ideas! Thanks for posting.

This is a great post except for 2 elements which I have to outline:

3) Make sure that the amount of backlink you make every day goes on with constant consistency. For a new website, you should consider increasing the amount of backlinks gradually. For e.g. never do a mistake of making 1000s of backlink first day and then taking a rest of 1 week. Start with 20, then after two days 30 .... then after couple of months you can touch your limit upto 500-1000 per day. Constant consistency and a gradual increase in number of backlinks is something that has given me a lot of success.

This makes so much sense doesn't it? Unfortunately for this nice little piece of theory, I have broken this rule repeatedly and have done just fine. It's not essential to be consistent with linkbuilding. It's a myth - but I agree that it can be good to play on the safe side.

  • 75% of your Backlinks that Yahoo Site Explorer should be DO FOLLOW
  • 25% should still be "NoFollow". (This has played an important in making Google realize that I have done backlinking in a natural way).

This is bandied around a lot on the forum but I am afraid I have to tell you that it's dead wrong. The nofollow attribute primarily denotes user generated content. You will not look any more "natural" by having nofollow links in your backlink profile. If anything, it will look like you tried to spam but don't know what you're doing. Almost all of the legitimate, non-user generated link sources out there are "d0follow", and these are what Google want to see. Google will not penalize for not having any nofollow in a backlink profile.

I am willing to accept that Google has made a special case for wikipedia - this is a possibility, considering Google knows how strictly moderated it is. But the fact of the matter is, you cannot tell for sure whether the nofollow links you have built have helped you rank - you are only engaging in speculation.

I say to the new people reading this - do not accept arbitrary experiments based on nofollow. If you go about building nofollows, you are almost certainly wasting your highly valuable time.

Aside from these points, this was a fantastic post that will be valuable to the new people on the forum. Clearly presented and some excellent points on IP diversity and content. If it were not for the 2 issues on link build rates and nofollow, I would petition for the thread to be stickied.

Ok, whilst I agree with Micallef that this is a good post (and it is for the newcomers) It is a good idea to initially stick with the 'essentials' which is the basic SEO fundamentals (title tag, H1,2,3 description, researched KW's, unique content, etc, etc) to enable a good grounding to be instilled and then progressing to further tactics....

The proportion of NF vs. DF, IP diversity and the like which your site should have varies to such an extent that it is impossible to fully grasp what the 'correct' method should be. Hence why, get the SEO fundamentals right and then experiment within your chosen niche as to what works and what doesn't.

To illustrate this point only yesterday I went on the detective trail following a juicy DF link from a spammer and I soon discovered a large link network (50+ html sites). On each one of these sites he (or she) had placed a 'links' page which was not linked from anywhere on the site (a lone page for the spiders) which was in turn linking to his other sites. In other words it was a massive and very easily detectable link wheel with pretty much the same IP profile and perfect anchor text links to all links targeting the required keyword for each of the 50 sites (all where of course DF).

You know what? All of the sites which were no more than 6 months old were ranking at between 1-4 on big G, each site had PR of 1-3 and the content was nothing short of shite. He had got there through no other external linking than what was provided by the link farm. Did I also mention he had adsense on all the sites also....?

This just goes to illustrate that each situation is different and whilst we need posts like this to help us understand our options there really is no sure fire blueprint to domination. Just as governments publish stacks of disinformation at an alarming rate so does the big G and we are all here also guilty of perpetrating this further probably even more so..!

So, my advice is stick first to the fundamentals which we all 'know' work in terms of basic SEO and then play around with varying tactics - don't just except the current 'word' out on the SEO/BH street, experiment and prosper!

I mostly agree with this perspective. Sometimes, you can break all the "rules" and still get lucky.

Good looking out on this post. I got some new ideas to increase my rankings on webpages i got live right now.

A lot of good information here, I have learned some of these things the hard way myself lately. I'm now trying to build a good list of places to do linking at, that are DF and not spammed to oblivion. This should help greatly when indexing and linking new sites.

First off thanks allot for the info. People can always disagree with the info shared, but i'm glad you shared it :).

The problem is you don't want to get lucky with SEO you want results that last :). Atleast that is what i would want :)

I personally find nofollow links to work perfectly.
It is truly a myth that they have no value. Of course, as mentioned, you need to combine both, but no need to make it your bible. If you have a no follow link opportunity & it is not spammed by 1000's viagra links - do it.

For me, it's a waste of time to get nofollow links (unless for traffic purposes) because i can always get d0follow links. SO each nofollow link I build comes at an opportunity cost of one d0follow link.

It won't take long if u blast using scrapebox and make sure to use your keyword as name.

if u decide to do manual commenting, then choose d0folow blogs preferebly with high PR.

Most of the time I have found only Feedage.com to serve as an ultimate Indexing tool for my backlink. RSS feeds are only useful for indexing purpose.

few more questions,,,,if i have 1 backlink from ezinearticle, is it better than 10 backlinks from other weaker article directory or web 2.0 website like squidoo hubpages etc ?

i never use article marketing from ezine since i have to wait for so long before my article approved...
