3.7M Traffic from .EDU Spam? Pages Don’t Even Load

Was messing around in Ahrefs, tracking some OF-related keywords and boom found a bunch of .EDU domains ranking like crazy.

One of them is pulling 3.7 MILLION traffic/month
Others? Sitting comfy at 100K+ — all from just June onwards.

And here’s the wild part:
When you try opening those ranking pages... they’re either 404 or just don’t load at all.

Domains I Checked:​

• usc.edu
• stanford.edu
• jhu.edu
• ncsu.edu
• unilag.edu.ng

All ranking for spicy OF-style keywords, PDFs, and leaks-related stuff.

My Quick Thoughts:​

• Some kind of index + hide trick?
• Open upload folders being used to inject content?
• Or maybe Google is caching temp spam before cleanup?

Whatever it is it’s working.

And if you figure it out... that’s a serious black hat goldmine waiting to be replicated.

Commenting as want to follow this, but, isn't this the use of backlinks where you stuff a domain and keywords in another site and it refers to those then builds Domain authority and reputation? If you do searches for most weird terms with site:*.edu you find all sorts of weird stuff, same for others like .gov, too.

Not 100% sure, though, I'm pretty dim.

I did not know these exists. That's genius. But I think before they came up with these solution, they spent tons of money as well.

True, it's smart but not cheap. They likely burned cash testing tools, proxies, and methods before cracking the system. Risky, but high reward.

Yeah, what you're seeing is classic parasite SEO.

It's not index + hide, it's more like inject and disappear.

They drop PDFs or HTML files full of spicy keywords into open upload folders on .edu sites ,usually abandoned or misconfigured subdomains.

Google crawls them fast, gives them top rankings because of the domain trust, and even after the files are gone or return 404, they still show up in Ahrefs because Google cached them.

That 3.7M traffic isn’t fake ,it’s just delayed decay.

The trick is catching the cache window and riding the domain authority before everything gets cleaned up.

True, whoever’s doing this is probably spending serious time, money, and resources to find these loopholes.
But damn, if they’re pulling millions of traffic from .EDU domains, they’re probably making thousands per day, easily. And honestly... might be worth it.


By the way, lately I’ve seen a lot of new bloggers skipping SEO altogether and going full-on social media route
Facebook pages, Insta reels, even Telegram and they’re generating real traffic from it.


Me? I’ve been struggling to grow my main site organically maybe that’s why I keep falling down these weird SEO rabbit holes

Drupal installations usually auto-delete uploads after a 24 hour period. So the uploaders really need to catch that traffic and make the most of it during that window.

OP, I would recommend targeting Wordpress-based upload forms for longer-lived parasite opportunities.

In order to get that traffic in short space of time they have to building links for fast indexing

it's not wild at all. Big sites get away with a lot, and education institutions are big sites in what google are concerned. I've seen this even few years ago when I was doing some research in the health & beauty industry and found several pages (from the same website) ranking top 5 for quite a few keywords and all of those pages that were ranking in top 5 were 404s. Actually, one of them wasn't 404, but it also had no content at all, it only had a list of links

But the other pages have all been broken, so yeah... that's google for you! Reward the rich and powerful, screw everyone else...
