Link Diversity – Overrated or Still Vital ?

I mean beyond the usual mix of anchors – I’m talking source types. Directories, blog comments, branded mentions, press releases, all that jazz.

I used to build a whole mess of links to make things look “natural” – but lately, just high-DR edits + GPs are doing the job just fine.

Are we overthinking this? Or are Google’s spam filters getting picky again?

Drop your mix if you don’t mind sharing. No judgment if it’s 90% PBN and vibes.

Absolutely agree with you.

A diverse link profile not only looks more natural but also builds long-term resilience against algorithm updates. Relying too heavily on one link type, no matter how strong it can definitely raise red flags with Google over time. Balance is key.

We still build diverse especially early on in a project.
Even if high-DR edits and GPs carry the weight, having some foundational variety seems to help things settle naturally.
It’s more about balance than volume these days.

Honestly, I’ve dialed it back. These days it’s mostly high-DR niche edits and a few guest posts. I sprinkle in branded stuff here and there, but nothing crazy. Haven’t seen a penalty yet... knock on wood.

These days, I mostly stick to high-DR edits and guest posts — they’re working well. I don’t stress much about link diversity unless a project really needs it.

High-DR niche edits and contextual guest posts are doing great across the board, especially when backed by some branded and authority links. Totally get the move away from spammy blog comments or low-quality directories, they just don’t hold weight anymore.

I believe the best strategy is a mix of strong authority placements and smart diversification, depending on the project’s goals.
