Hi guys,

I used to do Facebook instream ads back when they first came out and had pretty good success until it got too competitive. After that, I tried Instant Articles, and the last thing I worked on was the subscription bonus program.

It's been a while since I checked what's new. Can anyone tell me what’s currently working in Facebook monetisation these days. other than instream ads?

Would appreciate any updates or tips. Thanks!

Yeah, a lot's changed since the early Instream and Instant Articles days. These days, the subscription bonus is mostly gone or invite-only, and Reels bonuses have taken over as the hot thing—though those are also hit or miss now. Some creators are focusing on ad revenue from Reels + branded content deals. Fan subscriptions and Stars are still around too, but mostly work if you’ve got a strong, engaged following. Worth testing Reels if you haven't yet, especially if you can repurpose content from other platforms.

Currently, the monetization situation on this platform is quite chaotic and not as predictable as before. Policies are increasingly strict, especially with reward programs - many people report being suddenly cut off even though the content still meets the requirements. Instant Articles are no longer favored as before, and organic traffic has decreased significantly. Some new directions such as Reels, short content with high engagement, still have potential if optimized. However, in general, the trend is leaning towards cultivating quality profiles or groups to exploit traffic indirectly, instead of relying on official revenue from the platform.

Besides Instream Ads, Facebook currently offers a few solid monetization options. Reels Bonus (invite-only) is still active in some regions and pays based on views. Ad Revenue Sharing on Reels is another growing feature, available to eligible creators with high engagement. Subscriptions are great if you have a loyal community, while Stars work well for live streams or interactive videos. Outside of Facebook's native tools, affiliate marketing and brand deals are also worth exploring. Overall, short-form video and organic reach are key to making things work now.

Monetization is not as easy as it used to be, especially after algorithmic tightening and changes to content distribution policies. In addition to long-form video ads, many are shifting to short-form content, building a loyal following to tap into community advocacy, or combining it with developing highly engaged groups to build a foundation for future brand campaigns. Some are also focusing on promoting copyrighted content and repurposing it wisely to take advantage of organic distribution algorithms. However, the key now is to maintain a stable engagement rate and avoid negative signals that lead to reduced distribution or loss of monetization.

Right now, Facebook monetization focuses on Reels Play Bonus, Stars (fan donations), Paid Subscriptions, and Brand Collaborations. Reels and short-form content are performing best for growth and monetization in 2025.

Conversion ads are pretty good, if your product and website are good, conversion results will be low "
- interactive ads are pretty low, because users are switching to other platforms

Reels bonus (where available), Stars on livestreams, and branded content partnerships are hot right now. Facebook is pushing short-form, so Reels monetization is where most creators are shifting. Fan subscriptions still work but need loyal audiences. Less focus now on Instant Articles—Meta seems all-in on video + creator tools.

things have definitely changed since the early days of Instream and Instant Articles. Now, Reels bonuses are the main focus, but they’re hit or miss. Creators are relying more on ad revenue, branded content deals, and fan subscriptions. However, monetization has become more unpredictable with stricter policies, and many people report being cut off despite meeting the requirements. Instant Articles aren’t as effective anymore, and organic traffic has dropped.

Currently, in addition to in-stream advertising, effective ways to make money on Facebook include: making money from advertising on short videos, strongly prioritized by meta, rewards based on Reels performance, Selling or earning commissions through affiliate products

Hey! Besides in-stream ads, here are some other ways people are monetizing on Facebook right now:
  1. New Monetization Program (Beta) – Combines Reels, long videos, photos, text posts, etc. into one dashboard. But RPM is pretty low (around $0.05–$0.10).
  2. Facebook Stars – Viewers can send you Stars during videos or livestreams (1 Star ≈ $0.01).
  3. Fan Subscriptions – Followers pay monthly for exclusive content.
  4. Paid Online Events – You can sell tickets for livestreams, webinars, etc.
  5. Shops & Affiliate Links – Sell products or drop affiliate links in your posts.
  6. Brand Collabs Manager – Connect with brands for sponsored content.

Bottom line: Mixed content + strong engagement still matter most, but honestly, Facebook payouts aren’t as good as they used to be.

Making money on the FB platform is now more difficult, currently the trend of making money from Reels is quite popular, creating attractive content and complying with policies will help you develop and earn money.

Thinking of doing stars/subscription based stuff, is it easy to get approval for that?

Have you tried the subscription model?

In 2025, Facebook’s monetization trends are shifting to content monetization programs that combine different features like Reels Ads and Performance Bonuses into one streamlined approach. Creators are focusing on engaging content strategies, leveraging community engagement, and exploring new revenue streams outside of traditional ad formats.

Currently, in addition to Instream Ads, Facebook is focusing on Reels Ads, Stars, Fan Subscriptions, Branded Content and Affiliate traffic, in which Reels + Ads on Reels is the easiest way to make money for new creators.
