Google Site moved | site killed

Hey guys I recently performed a google site move from domain x to domain y.

The main money keywords are on the home page.

1. I did the redirects and pretty much everything that is needed
2. On day 3 the entire new site was crawled pos 25+
3. One day 4 The old site is removed from index, backlinks transferred and shows in new site.
4. New site gets new and most of the old keywords and ranks well.
5. Site struggles for high volume money keywords, moves to pos 3,2 and stays there for a few hours then goes to +25
6. I accidentally reindex old home page without redirect
7. New site shows position 2 for a few hours then moves back to 25 and old site home page shows in google

Old site was ranking pos 6 for the money keyword, just before the change.

Can people with experience assist please.

I understand that it looks like you killed it, but give it some time. Google is great at ranking keywords, and they do their best to include high authority websites like yours

Although you didn't destroy your website, Google received conflicting signals from your unintentional reindex of the previous homepage, dude. "Here's the new house," you say to Google, and then you mumble, "But the old one's still kinda active." Make sure the previous homepage is correctly 301-ed once again, take it down from GSC if it has been reindexed, and allow it to settle for a few days. Typical post-move turbulence is the dance you see in rankings. Google expects clarity, not ambiguity, so be patient and consistent.

Nope, you didn’t kill it — just confused Google a bit. Reindexing the old home without a redirect likely triggered mixed signals. Set proper 301s again, submit sitemap, and give it 1–2 weeks to stabilize. G’s just recalibrating.

Thank you so much for you reply, I revert back to the old site, and my rankings across the board shoot up, basically position 1 for all keywords that matter.


The migration was due to believing that site had some hidden SEO throttle based of off bad technical and content based signals, but it is completely back to it's 2 years ago performance, perhaps this could have triggered something within the Google algorithm ?

No matter what I did, the site could not just get to position, also to mention I also did a massive EETA revamp for the migration, perhaps that was be golden ticket to ranking well again.

Reverting to the old site and combining it with a massive E-E-A-T revamp likely lifted any algorithmic suppression, resulting in a full ranking recovery.
