As with people saying that backlinks are dead for the past 2 decades, I have seen people claiming that expired domains found through crawling are useless for over 5 years now. Yet people are still crawling and finding usable domains, just as far more people are backlinking today than 20 years ago.

Yes, that’s true. We’ve come across domains that changed owners and content 3–4 times — and in the end, the content always turned out to be Asian: Chinese, Korean or Japanese.

It seems like this is part of their SEO strategy — picking up anything that has at least some backlinks. I’m not very familiar with Asian SEO, but maybe it’s connected to optimization for Baidu and Naver. Do they have weaker or more vulnerable spam link filters?
