Hey everyone,

We realized a massive shift in google ads conversion and cpc, as of November 2024 within the industry of Payday Loans Region: Canada

We have done quite about everything to attempt to reduce the cost per funded client but it has almost doubled.

Another thing we realized is high budget doesnt mean good results, we've had ads running at about $100/day providing great conversions, we figured the campaign was running well so we've increased the budget to $800-1000 a day and the conversion tanked no matter how long we waited for things to settle. (10 - 20 days)

- Has anybody within the industry experienced this?
- Anyone with Google Ads experience have some work arounds?

Thanks,
Trocks

I process about 60,000 US Payday leads a day and the Geos are a big piece of what lenders are looking for due to regulations

Canada is newer to me but based off of the affiliates I work with what I can say is that it comes down to quality, uniqueness and sources they use? Google ads works well

Would you have a funnel process where you onboard clients for realtime leads? (Canada Only)

I think you've mismanaged the scaling. Advertisers in the same niche don't have the same problems, but they're not in Canada.

Yeah bro, you’re not alone. November '24 hit payday and high-risk verticals hard, especially in regulated regions like Canada. Google’s algo got stricter on budget scaling + intent signals. When you bump from $100 to $800/day, Google doesn’t just give you more of what worked—it starts testing wider, less-qualified traffic fast. That tanks your conversion rate.

Best move: scale slow and segment campaigns. Duplicate winning ad sets into new campaigns with their own budgets instead of just raising one. Also rotate creatives and refresh LPs often—Google starts penalizing stale CTR signals quick now.

If you're running through an agency account with high trust, scaling tends to be smoother.

Yeah, not in that exact niche but similar pattern big budget jumps can sometimes mess with what was already working, gradual scaling tends to be more stable from what I’ve tested

after observing deeply, I see and would suggest Increasing your budget too fast can make Google Ads perform worse even if smaller budgets worked well. conversion costs can rise if competition or rules in your industry change. try raising budgets slowly testing different audiences and focusing on the bestperforming ads first.
