China is banning crypto?

Not able to find any credible source of is it happening or not. But looks like china always goes the opposite way, and as a paradox chinese govt is largest holders of crypto themselves.

I know lot of people who were making payments in crypto even after past bans.

China has made repeated crypto bans before—could be recycled news unless confirmed by reliable sources like official state media or major outlets.

Fake.
And why would they do that in 2025?

I see some coverage on this news in my feed.

I DOUBT IT IS FAKE.
Anyone confirm about this real or fake?
I also heard the news. But it does not matter because there was clearly no effect of Bitcoin price movment.

They banned mining and also you cant create account in many major crypto platforms like Binance.

They actually already banned BTC mining like 5 years ago. At this point I don’t think banning it altogether is viable though, how do you block people from using something thats decentralized as a whole and an easily be traded p2p.
Exactly, it's already partially banned for years
But it's not strict, there are millions of crypto investors in China
And if they finally lift crypto restrictions, it could have a huge effect on the whole market

We don't allow crypto.

Because it has no real world usage, and only seen as a way to gambling and washing dirty money. Our country is protecting people.

But sure, there are still some sneaky ways if one really want to trade it. We already protected the most innocents.

China's been consistently cracking down on crypto for years, and this May 31, 2025 ban is the big finale, officially making private ownership of crypto illegal for individuals.

Here's a quick rundown of the key bans leading up to this:

2013: The People's Bank of China told financial institutions they couldn't trade Bitcoin or other crypto assets.
2017: They shut down crypto exchanges, basically making legal trading impossible, and also banned ICOs.
2021: The government declared mining and crypto transactions illegal, and blocked foreign crypto exchanges from serving Chinese citizens. Up until this point, owning crypto in private wallets wasn't formally illegal, even though trading it was tough.

So, before 2025, trading, mining, and transactions were all banned. This new ruling on May 31, 2025, finally closed the loophole and made simply owning crypto illegal for individuals in China.

owning crypto isn’t illegal in China, but trading or speculating with it seems to be a no-go, and you can’t actually use it to pay for stuff. Most Chinese people don’t trust it anyway.

Not too surprising given China’s strict over the years. This final ban really seals the deal, though.
