We've all heard it a thousand times: "SEO is dead." But is it really? Or is it just evolving faster than most people can keep up with? Between Google's relentless algorithm updates, AI-generated content flooding the web, and SERPs getting overtaken by ads and answer boxes, traditional SEO seems to be on life support.

In this post, I'm opening the floor:
  • Is organic traffic still worth chasing in 2025?
  • Are backlinks dead or just overpriced?
  • Is programmatic SEO and AI the new game?
  • Has Google turned into a pay-to-play system?

for me it's been dead for 7-8 years... maybe for longer...

Is organic traffic still worth chasing in 2025?
sure! If you're rich and / or geek by nature and can detect and exploit google's loopholes

Are backlinks dead or just overpriced?
both can be (and are) true at the same time...

But there are also backlinks that are overpriced but which aren't dead, so that's another truth :)

Is programmatic SEO and AI the new game?
yes, and yes

Has Google turned into a pay-to-play system?
100%

SEO is dead for those who don't know SEO.

how so? AI relies on serp rankings to pull answers
And you know how much data these LLMs are trained on? I think the search engine share is going to drop a lot. Google has had the monopoly for years, but that's changing now. Instead of going through sites one by one, now you can easily access the answers in one place, which matches your context better. I won't have a reason to go on Google if these LLMs can do all this. My searches have been reduced by almost 60-70%, which I think is true with you and others.

I don't have to go through overly SEO optimized pages anymore. :D

Programmatic SEO was the game for the past 10 years, nothing new. Sorry if you are late to the game

Is SEO really dead, or is it evolving too fast for most to keep up? With AI, ads, and constant updates, traditional SEO feels like it's on the brink

SEO is not dead. It’s just changed compared to the pre AI era. You need to break out of the 2020 mindset and understand how Google’s algorithm works now, then the full picture becomes clearer. These days, you need to focus on consistent work and real quality, no spam or low value content. A few years ago, you could launch a site, build some links, and boom, it ranked. But that era is gone. Time to face the truth and adapt to the new SEO game.

Organic traffic?
Still worth it, but only if you go long term and build real value.
Backlinks?
Not dead, just overpriced. Cheap ones don’t work, real ones still help.
Programmatic SEO & AI?
Yep, that’s the new wave, but needs smart execution.
Google pay-to-play?
Pretty much. Organic is there, but ads and AI are eating space fast.

SEO in 2025 feels like a whole new game curious if organic traffic and backlinks still hold real value or if it’s all pay to play now?

That's the point. Why to go myself through 20 webpages to eventually find an answer AI gives me instantly?

Is SEO really dead or just evolving between AI content, Google updates, and pay-to-play SERPs, is organic traffic still worth the chase in 2025?

SEO isn’t dead—it’s just harder. Organic traffic still works if you offer real value. Backlinks still matter, but quality > quantity now. AI + programmatic SEO helps scale, but human touch still wins. Google’s leaning pay-to-play, but smart SEO can still cut through.

Is SEO truly dead in 2025, or just evolving with AI, algorithm changes, and a pay-to-play Google landscape
