Why hasn't the Gemini protocol gained more popularity?

Since we are rightfully concerned about the current status of the web and SEO, which diverged from its initial, late 80s - early 90s direction, why isn't Gemini protocol more widespread, at least among geeks and nerds, since it offers exactly what the old web was all about: and open way to deliver (and consume) content as text and hyperlinks?

I’ve wondered the same. Gemini seems solid in terms of privacy and simplicity, but I think the lack of mainstream adoption tools (like easy-to-use browsers or content platforms) is holding it back. People are just too used to the convenience of the regular web.

This is a technology that is trying to relive the glory years of it's BBS cousin. That's the type of interface we all had on dialup, to numbers that had servers with software downloads and a menu functionality. It could make for a fun website theme though! lol I bet lots of geeks would love a wordpress one!

Why is PHP still the #1 web technology, only followed by JS, both pieces of shit?

Sometimes being better doesn't mean being prime.

HTTP was the standarized protocol, and its going to be pretty hard to change it, unless some sort of super-consortium where Alphabet, Mozilla Foundation and Meta and many others could consider joining and forcing the switch at all costs.
