It's been 5 months since I got the penalty from December spam update, I made so many changes in the site, google should not be seeing me as a spam site, so when do you think this penalty will be lifted? any ideas?

Only Google can tell for sure
Do you have experience with previous penalized websites?

making many changes doesn't guarantee anything. You need to make the right changes. But even so, if the domain has been de-indexed (for example) no change can bring it back :)

Anyway, we can't answer to your question because we don't know anything about your site. And only google knows when penalties get lifted, so....

From my competitors, yes, they usually come back after 10 months.

I made the right changes I suppose, spent many hours reading the google spam policies and all. Domain is not de-indexed, it indexes pretty fast. I think its spray and pray atm.

get going with new site , the penalty if would be lifted there traffic flow shall be low .

There's not an exact time for that. It all depends on their next spam review or whenever a potato might get off their ass and review your site. If you've cleaned up the junk content, edited the sketchy links, improved the site, tightened the pages, etc. it’s now mostly just waiting. Watch for notices in Google Search Console, and if you believe it was a manual action, file a reconsideration request. Based on what I've observed all sites seem to bounce back at the next major spam update or review which is generally anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months after you've done everything.

I already moved to new domain 6 months ago, not going to change it again.

Yes, I cleaned up and fixed everything. No not a manual action it's a algorithmic penalty. I think it's just a waiting game now.

Is it a manual penalty you're talking about here or just a decrease in rankings after the spam update?

>I made so many changes in the site, google should not be seeing me as a spam site...
- I've been professionally recovering websites from Google penalties (both manual and algorithmic) for many years, and I can tell you - it’s not about how many changes you make, but whether you’ve fixed the core issue that caused the penalty. Usually, it comes down to one major problem - sometimes a few.

>so when do you think this penalty will be lifted?
- In most cases, Google re-evaluates penalties during the next core update or spam update. Occasionally it happens sooner, without waiting for an update - but that’s more of an exception than the rule.

I got the penalty after december 2024 spam update, whats the core issue that I should fix here?

Mainly for low-quality content. The update hit sites that were mass-producing thin pages with little to no real value, often creating AI-generated articles around various keywords without considering their actual usefulness for readers.
