referencing above, I would assume hrefer still works, but I have not used it after the big google updates with javscript this year.
In 2010 there wasn't really any other big players to use. I mean I got Xrumer back "in the day" and it was good for sure, but it was one of a kind. It still has value and Xevil has its own set of unique value too, but once I started using scrapebox it was just easier to use then hrefer. I felt hrefer wasn't as flexible. It had its purpose, but if you were trying to do anything outside off that purpose then it could be done often, but it just took more work.
Also at the end of the day there is a mental flow for me, a framework of how to get from point A to point B and the whole xrumer/hrefer flow and framework - I always found it counter intuitive.
Presumptively it was adapted over time and it started out of necesity to accomplish X but as time went on they just stuck with it. Lots of things happen that way.
Anyway I still think xrumer and xevil are solid and xevil may be better then ever. Where as hrefer these days just has too many competitors on the whole that do as good or better in an easier way. Thats my opinon anyway.
At the end of the day all that really matters is the out come. So either your getting your outcome or your not. If you are great, then try other tools and when you get your outcome compare teh speed and ease of getting that outcome vs the speed and ease to hrefer to get the same outcome and there is your answer.
