Anyone found any webhosts that load sites faster than Hostgator?

I've got two incredibly slow loading blogs on host gator and I'm about to launch two magazine style sites that I want to load quickly. I've tested my sites from home, on my phone, on public wifi, and at work behind a corporate firewall. It's sloooooow. So I decided to test it out using online tools, but I'm not sure tests like these are legit and wanted to see what other people get as results on hostpulse.com/hosting/networktools/speedtest.asp
and
iwebtool.com/speed_test
My results were:
Packets: Sent = 6,Received = 5, Lost = 1 (16.6666666666667% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 31ms, Average = 21ms
and a 1.6 second load time according to iwebtool. That's a hell of a lot faster than anything I've ever experienced, but relative to Googles reported .1 second load time and Huffington Posts .2 second load time, I'm still hella slow. Anyone found any webhosts that load sites faster than Hostgator?

Try Site5 I have been using them for a while. The speed is really good, but I have not tested it to know exactly. I just know its night and day faster than powweb, which I was one before.

I've used 3 mainstream hosting services, none of them compared to HG in terms of speed. Just upgrade your account.

Not sure how hostgator works but it seems like they are limiting % usage per account esp if your site is loading slow all the time. Have you tried disabling all the plugins to see if it helps?

Avoid iPage - they're slow and have quite a lot of down time.

Thanks for all the suggestions, please keep them coming. I'll disable the plugins and test the speed in a little while, haven't tried that yet but I do use a lot of plugins. And I figure that if I have to upgrade the account then I should at least shop around beforehand.

Sorry just a suggestion from a newbie. Did you use any caching plugin like w3 total cache or super cache? And did you also tried gzip activation via htaccess file which makes your blog fly?

very happy with webhostingbuzz - their 'business' hosting
allows for a LOT more CPU usage without having to go to
VPS.

You should follow what edgematch had suggested. These plugins will help your blog load faster.

I'm using supercache already and will look into gzip.

Looks like a good part of this thread disappeared today. Hostgator doesn't really support gzip on their shared servers. See support.hostgator.com/articles/how-to-use-gzip . CDN=Content Delivery Network. At first I though that was a bit much for my purposes but I'm not only hosting a wordpress blog and Moodle on a subdomain, I'm also hosting video tutorials. I'm still looking at alternatives but right now it looks like getting a VPS really is my best bet. I have a solid collection of links to offshore servers, VPS servers, and Remote Desktop hosting that some people might find useful. I'll post them (probably in another thread) in a couple of days, once I've got my own business sorted out.
