How Would You Beat This Site?

I found a site with one home page and it's basically a tools type of website.

Traffic: 26,000
DA: 9
Backlinks: 90 (70 is nofollow)

Now I'm quiet sure I can rank as well but I dont know if I'll be able to get first spot as they have it and being there for a while however I'm not too sharp with the off page seo like link building etc.

Also I'll be using a fresh domain as I need to do an exact match so I'm starting from 0 authority etc.

So on page is easy and they don't have much content on the homepage, just the tool.

They do have ads.

What would you do to somewhat take over

what i noticed is that they have the exact match domain, but there is one that is also available but longer so im sure it will be better to get it

What would you do to somewhat take over

To beat them, build strong on-page SEO with useful content under your tool, get 30–40 quality backlinks (guest posts, directories, outreach), add a blog targeting long-tail keywords, and promote on Reddit, Quora, and niche platforms. EMD + paid ads is a good combo, it might be hard to outrank them, so I don't think that longer EMD will cut it..

Their weak points seem to be lack of content and authority. So, if you manage to have more (topically relevant) pages and pump up the authority of your homepage to... say at least 20+... you might succeed. But I would buy ads too once the content and authority are established, maybe - 2 things being equal - google might just favor you due to higher authority and more content...

But the thing is... if that site ranks with only 1 page for a tools-related keyword (so, commercial keyword) this means that content might not be needed as google cares a lot about keyword intent nowadays, so people looking up tools into google are usually interested in buying them, not in reading their specs or reviews (unless it's a keyword that has "review" in it, of course)

Anyway, not sure what you can do, but the point was that a longer EMD might not work

Look in the Wayback Machine, and check their journey in ahrefs and semrush. What if they got less than 50 visitors for a year first? You should find as many variables out before you assume its as easy as just Monday starting a website, and tuesday ranking number 1.
