Hey everyone,

I’ve got a TikTok account that's getting close to 10k followers (about 3,000 to go – still a bit of a journey). I already meet the main requirements, including the necessary number of views, for joining the Creator Fund.

But I’ve been wondering: once you hit 10k, is there any kind of manual review from TikTok before approving monetization?

Just to clarify, my content mostly consists of clips from popular movies in my country. Could that type of content potentially prevent me from being approved for monetization?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Yes, they do review your account, and copyright content like movie clips can definitely be an issue. Even if your account grows, monetization might get rejected if the content isn’t original. It’s worth mixing in some original content just to be safe.

Yes, your content could definitely be an issue when it comes to monetization — especially if it's made up of clips from movies or TV shows, even if they’re popular locally.

Once you hit 10k followers and meet the other eligibility requirements, TikTok doesn't always do a super in-depth manual review right away for Creator Fund access, but they do run automated checks on your content. If your page is heavily reliant on copyrighted material (like movie clips), you’re at high risk of either:

  • Getting rejected from the Creator Fund
  • Getting demonetized later on even if you’re initially accepted
  • Having videos muted or removed retroactively

TikTok, like YouTube, doesn’t want to reward content that could lead to legal/licensing issues — especially content that you don't fully own or that lacks significant transformation (like commentary or edits that make it "fair use").

If your goal is long-term monetization (especially through Creator Fund or TikTok Series), you’ll probably need to start mixing in original or more transformative content — even something like voiceovers, reviews, or mashups with clear added value helps.

Are you set on growing that account to monetize, or would you consider pivoting the content type now so you don’t hit a wall at 10k?

Yes, the review is

Yes, the review is manual. Copyrighted contents can trigger issues unless you have the complete permissions to reuse the clips.

Focus on high engagement content. If your content does get flagged, try appealing or adjusting your approach slightly.

Hi again,

Thanks everyone for your answers — they really helped me get a better understanding of a few things.

I’m still considering submitting a monetization request once I hit the 10k follower milestone, just to see if TikTok moderators are able to detect whether the clips I post are copyrighted. These aren’t super popular or mainstream clips — do you think there’s still a chance it might get approved?

And I have one more question: if my application is rejected due to copyright content, does that mean my account would be permanently disqualified from monetization? Even if I delete all my previous videos and switch to 100% original content before reapplying ?

Yes, TikTok may manually review accounts. Using movie clips can cause copyright issues and might block you from monetization.

Is it possible to reapply for monetization after deleting all previous content and switching to a completely new video theme?

Your account will get reviewed and you won't have any problems if you created unique and original content.

It can be a problem, it may be considered copyrighted content, especially if you are just posting movie clips without adding anything else

Congrats on the growth! Yeah, TikTok does review accounts before approving for monetization. If you’re posting movie clips, copyright could definitely be an issue. They’re pretty strict about original content for the Creator Fund.
