I had been covering a lot of unrelated keywords on a website to increase content there. I want to know if it is too bad for my website SEO ?

Yes, covering a lot of unrelated keywords on your website can be harmful to your SEO in the long run, especially if those keywords are not aligned with your site's core topic or purpose.

But that will limit the possible content. After a point, there will be nothing left to cover if we just have to stick to core topic.

Yes, covering unrelated keywords can confuse Google about your site's main focus. It may dilute topical authority and hurt rankings. Its better to build content around related topics to boost relevance and trust in your niche.

What is the stance of other search engines around this method ?

Good question. Other search engines like Bing and Yahoo also prefer niche-focused content. While they may be less strict than Google, building topical relevance still helps with better indexing, user trust and ranking across all major platforms.

yes, its a very bad strategy, your keywords should be relevant to your site so that google can know where your main focus lies.

It's a good question. Google ranks sites that cater to user intent. It understands your site niche and correlates it to user intent based on keywords. If you become an authority for a set of keywords, then you can expand to related keywords. But publishing content for random keywords can harm you as you're destroying your site's core strength. You should avoid publishing content related to keywords that don't fall in your niche. It's absolutely fine to post random content for general niche sites but you need to rely on ads to promote your site.

Covering too many unrelated keywords can usually harm SEO. Google might see the site as less relevant and lower its quality.

everyone's saying no, maybe not though. what do you consider unrelated? you can make a lot of parallel topics relevant - accounting and auto? accounting for auto etc.

Yes, spraying unrelated keywords can hurt your website. Google gets confused about your niche, so you might lose topical relevance. So, better to niche down, silo content, and focus on one main topic. If it's too messy, either fix it by deleting or moving off-topic stuff, or start a fresh site. Keep it focused.

I would focus on a specific niche and subniche instead of trying to cover random keywords on my website, it can make your website seems spammy and too general

Yes it is not good for seo. You should remain focussed on the theme of the website and all articles should revolve around that only.

Yes it can harm your SEO because google may not see your site as an expert in any specific topic, which can lower your rankings.

Covering your site with a large number of irrelevant keywords in order to increase content can negatively impact your search engine optimization (SEO) if it is not done strategically. Search engines like Google prioritize relevance, user intent, and content quality. Including a large number of irrelevant keywords can be seen as keyword stuffing, and Google will penalize it. If the keywords do not align with the content or user intent, it can hurt your rankings. Irrelevant keywords can reduce the topical authority of your site. Search engines may have difficulty understanding your site's content, reducing their ability to rank well on any particular topic. Content that feels forced or irrelevant to visitors can increase bounce rates and reduce engagement, both of which are negative signals for SEO. Make sure your keywords align with your site's positioning and user intent. Use related keywords to build topic clusters instead of scattering irrelevant keywords. Create high-quality, in-depth content that provides value to users. Content should be targeted at answering specific questions or solving problems. Use Google Search Console or analytics tools to track the performance of these pages. If certain keywords are not driving traffic or engagement, reconsider including them. Make sure keywords are used naturally and contextually in your content.

I say focus on few relevant keywords than more unrelevant, get focused traffic and conversion.

Covering unrelated keywords can dilute topical relevance and harm SEO, so it’s better to stay focused on niche-specific content.
