Much appreciated replies - I had no idea most of these options even existed.

I'm assuming "whois privacy" is a mentioned in a few posts for reasons other than simply 'protecting personal information'. Perhaps the goal to hide the fact that we own many domains?

So, instead of assuming I will simply ask those who mentioned it - Why is "whois privacy" a factor in your selection process?

My #1 reason for it is the 'protecting personal information' factor. There is absolutely no reason for any random person to be given my personal info by a registrar. Especially since there really are psycho people out there. If one of them takes offence at something they find on one of my websites I certainly don't want my registrar to give them any of my personal info.

The secondary reason is as you say, I don't want people to figure out that all these different webites I have are all owned by the same person. Especially since many of them are set up as being run by fake personas. There's no reason to use a fake persona if all someone needs to do is read the whois to see who you really are. Which also takes you back to the psycho factor again.

If your doing really blackhat stuff you might even have more reason to want to keep it private. In fact if it's really blackhat you'll probably want to create a fake persona to even register the site and keep your name out of it completely. The bad thing about that though is if anything goes wrong from a domain management issue, it might be harder for you to prove your the true owner. It's a matter of weighing the risks regarding the use of a fake name to register or using a private whois to just hide the info from random surfers.

Namecheap. My biggest domains are from GoDaddy, but they were registered a year ago.

Don't trust GoDaddy.

Also, name.com is nice.

I use godaddy nothing specific... They all offers roughly same... It's just i started with godaddy and bought good number of them... Never had any problem and interface is very easy.......

Well I use name.com and never had any problems with them. Website is very user friendly as you say. But they've changed a few things lately. The private whois is no longer free, and they made an announcement a few weeks ago that their prices will be going up. Dotcoms are still at 9.99 so far but I guess that will change.

You can still get the free whois privacy, but you have to use a coupon code to get it.

I still like them though, and it's convenient when you have a lot of domains to keep track of the registrations when they're all with one company. I might start using a different registrar though for any new domains just to try them out if they're cheaper.
