Morning guys,

I got a question and comment about expired domains.

1st off what is going on with backorder? I cant buy it and it is not for auction yet. I read that a bid can be placed on them but do big companies like godaddy or namecheap have first dibs? They appear to be getting these domain cheap, upcharging for a while, then releasing them.

2nd question is like the first, alot of the domains Sedo, namecheap, godaddy is getting has no value. So wtf are doing, just buying everything that has anytype of backlinks or traffic?

3rd question about autobids, is this another human or the company itself I am bidding against. I bid 5 bucks the auto matches asap to a certain amount?

My comment is some people or companies are wastfully holding some of these domains asking for to much money. I just cant believe how they are so anxious just to buy them and hold them for keepsake w/o doing anything with them. There cant be that many SEOs looking for domains with just a lttle juice.

1. You put a backorder on the domain in case it becomes available. Meaning, that whoever owns it now will not renew in the future.

2. Dropcatching. These companies consist of hundreds, sometimes thousands of registrars which blast the ventral registry tens of thousands of times in a span of a few miliseconds after the domain drops. That's how they make a living.

And yes, they dropcatch anything they like or anything that has been backordered. It costs them fuckall to do it, so why not to do it.

3. That's a proxy bid mate. If I bid 1000 USD proxy bid and the current price is at 50, then even if you bid 500, you will get immediately outbid by my proxy bid until you reach the 1000 I put there.

My comment is some people or companies are wastfully holding some of these domains asking for to much money.

Bohoo, evil companies, we should establish the rule of proletariat. /s

  1. Yeah, backordering can be confusing. Big registrars like GoDaddy or Namecheap often partner with drop-catching services, so they do get first crack at expiring domains. If a domain has demand, it might go to auction instead of straight to backorder.
  2. You're right—some domains seem to have no real value, but companies still scoop them up. A lot of the time they’re betting on old backlinks, type-in traffic, or just holding them as part of a numbers game.
  3. As for autobids, it depends. Sometimes it’s just another user who set a max bid, and the system matches you automatically. Other times, it can feel like you’re bidding against a bot or algorithm from the platform itself.

And yeah, totally agree with your comment—it’s wild how many domains just sit there overpriced and unused. It's like digital hoarding!

Thanks for the answers and I respect your hustle man. My reasons for wanting a expired domain is not the most noble so I an not judging others, more so I just wanted a few domains that were being hoarded. Just trying to get them before I look at the profile again and I see asian or russian stuff on them knowing they been spammed out.

Yeah, all this being said since I am in the mood again I am checking morning, noon and night for anything good. I have chased a few that I had to track down right after it dropped back to a auction, usually godaddy...so annoying. They just tried to upcharge me other day, another convo.

There is no way of tracking it but I seen a few domains get hoarded then later drop by the major registar days to weeks later, as you said they hoarded is trying to upsell and no one bites so they just drop it. Is there a method to auto track this?
