The main thing here is coming up with the right idea in the right time and promote it to the right audience. Many developers earn great $$$ from simple ideas executed right. It's not a complete hoax that many 'indie app devs' became millionaires with ideas too simple, but they just put the effort into execution, and picked the right time and audience (or had enough luck to land in the right spacetime).
Given that you don't have the ideas, what other approaches you can take here?
- Get into some niche communities which you have an idea what it's about and have some interest in it, and the people of said niche would be your guide here. Indulge in conversations -even non technical at all-, try to look into what they might need. Even the silliest of ideas might work.
Got an idea? Prototype it, test and proof it initially, and the feedback will lead you to better your idea or drop it and get into something else. It might not work out at all, but you'll never know unless you put it under test.
- Freelancing nowadays is so hard, the competition is crazy, and it's so hard to land deals nowadays. Think of what would make someone choose your service over 100 other sellers? Simple answer here is you provide better value/product, can offer it cheaper, or can do it faster and more efficiently.
So.. what can you do here? Head into any freelancing marketplace, pick a niche/service you wanna offer, look at the offered services for inspiration and better understanding, and finally jump to it. You won't jump in offering the same shit, you've to make it better, you've to give the buyers a reason to pick you. Even you end up with better service or some added value, or you end up with same thing done more efficiently or cutting the costs (for both you and the customers).
Still, can't sell? Do some marketing, invest in your thing. You can even use your competitors here, in many ways; One way might be to contact them directly and offer same service for lower or with better functionality, and you might end up doing a JV with a big seller there, or turn the sellers themselves into your customers. You can also play it the other way around; find these sellers' marketing or even social channels and get the data of their followers and customers, these are your target customers, they're already interested, and if you provide better value for their money they'll mostly pick you.
- Since we're in an online marketing platform now, let's look into that. Looking around the forum here, or looking into 'making money online' methods in general, you can find many proven and tested methods and ideas around, and yes anything that's legit working and has potential to make good money requires time and effort, and we're not looking forward to just follow the steps or just recreate a method.
What to look for here is to build something around any of the tested and proven methods. You can start by looking at the earning money and marketplace section, have a look at the working methods and the things that really sell. Mostly you'll find something that'll spark your interest, research and dig deeper into it, see how and why it really works, and then try to build it your own way.
Even you'll do some automations to recreate a method on autopilot, get an idea for an app that might sell, or build your own funnel programmatically. Possibilities are endless here;
- Can you automate the routines people do to target people interested in xyz and already making sales? I'm talking complete complex routines, not just sending mails or any form of automated cold contact. If you can offer that, many folks around here have the traffic and lists of target audiences, they might sell it to you, buy your solution, or do some JV.
- Can you do in depth data-analysis? Marketing folks are dead for rich extensive analysis and insights. And again, many ways to monetize.
- Can you programmatically produce any form of content that's better than what's offered at the marketplace or comes at a fraction of the cost? Hop into that!
- This list might go on forever, you got the idea.
So what to do now?... it's becoming a bit of cliché but it's still so true, shall I say: Stop over-thinking, start building. Take the first ideas that you find interesting and can see potential on it, and jump in directly with no second thoughts. Even a failed attempt will teach you much more than just surfing around looking for ideas or inspiration, and it might open new opportunities you never knew existed.
