Hey guys, one thing you see all the time on this forum or the SEO sub on red or other places that talk about this is noobs coming in asking 'is SEO still worth doing'
Well, if the question is in regards to ranking on Google with free traffic to put up display or affiliate ads or sell something else.... the answer is sadly no
Example A = Authority Hacker shut down their 8 figure business selling courses on SEO because they know nothing works anymore (thankfully they are good people)
Example B = Just go to Google and put 'best x in city' and replace x with something like bacon cheeseburger and city with any city that isn't one of the 10 or 15 biggest in the US.... what do you see?
If an AI answer hasn't already taken up page 1 then you will get a giant Google map, some Yelp and TripAdvisor lists, some old TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other forum posts, and maybe a link to a burger restaurant
What don't you see? Local bloggers, travel bloggers, local newspapers, local tv stations, or niche/informational sites on food or burgers or beef or whatever
You can replicate that across millions of 'best x in city' keywords yourself, and 99.99999% of the time its exactly like I just laid out
Local isn't the only area that they have ruined, its just the easiest one to explain to someone who isn't too deep into SEO
I have also seen some threads on here dissing former SEO superstars (said jokingly), like there was one talking about how Jon Dykstra's no link building strategy turned out to be a bad one because he lost his ass with the HCU
Well, the links wouldn't have mattered, 99.9% of all small publishers lost their ass with the HCU, no reason to throw shade on anyone who did
So why am I making this thread? Because both here and on other forums when any noob comes by to ask if they should still get into SEO the first responders are always people selling courses or products in the SEO industry that sadly don't have the same character the Authority Hacker guys do
They use these forums to find new customers, they are predators, and they are happy to take the money of any prey they can because they know they won't be able to much longer
DO NOT GET INTO SEO IF BY SEO YOU MEAN BUILDING WEBSITES TO RANK ON GOOGLE AND MONETIZE WITH ADS
Or waste your time, money, and other resources if you want to
