Mark Zuckerberg defends Meta in social media monopoly trial

Is it really a believable defense? - "Mr Zuckerberg also said he wanted to buy Instagram because of its camera technology, not because of its social network" He is expected to continue his testimony on Tuesday.

Is he going to force-sell Instagram if he fails the trial?

I don't think he's going to sell it that easily. It's a cash cow for him. I think instagram's got more young active users than FB. Young people spend more time and money online.

That Zuckerberg defense about buying Instagram for its camera tech? Hmm, it definitely raises an eyebrow, doesn't it? On the surface, in isolation, maybe you could argue that a company might be interested in innovative technology. But when you look at the bigger picture – Instagram's rapid growth as a social network and a direct competitor to Facebook at the time – it feels like a pretty convenient explanation in hindsight.

The timing of the acquisition, Instagram's clear trajectory as a visual-first social platform, and the subsequent integration of its features into Facebook all point towards a move to neutralize a rising threat and solidify Meta's dominance in the social media space. So, believable? For a very narrow, technical interpretation, perhaps. But in the context of the market, it sounds like a carefully crafted narrative for a courtroom.

Now, about the forced sale of Instagram if Meta loses the trial – that's a very real possibility. Antitrust laws are designed to prevent monopolies and promote competition. 1 If the court finds that Meta's acquisition of Instagram was anti-competitive, one of the remedies could indeed be to force Meta to divest (sell off) Instagram

Instagram has incredible camera technology, so he must be saying the truth. Either way, the web needs to be demonopolized and more copetitive, especially when it comes to search engines.

of course he lies. he is trying whatever he can to get away with the things he is doing. he is a bonafide scammer even though I use META to advertise.
