How to recover files in windows ?

I am trying to install ubuntu along with windows. but my hard drive get format.

I have lost my all important files. Is there any way to recover files ?

For the future: you should have separate drive/s for your operating systems and separate drive for data

Recuva is a good tool.

I used it way back in 2013 I think as a kid. But their recovery is kind of not that crystal clear if I remember clearly. Maybe they have evolved by now.

I tried several recovery tools myself in the past. Never had much success. Key is prevention. Always run a 2nd drive.

You could try TestDisk or PhotoRec too. They’ve worked for me before on formatted drives. Worth a shot if Recuva doesn’t help.

Another good one to try is EaseUS Data Recovery. It has a free tier with limited GB, but works well if your files weren’t heavily overwritten.

Yeah you can use it for free and it sure didn't help me at all. I always keep a big external drive and backup here and there. I just didn't remember for one file and it's gone forever.
