Hello, I’d like to ask if someone can help me. There are two competitors of my clients(beauty andclawyer sector), and I haven’t been able to figure out why both of them rank first on Google. One of them doesn’t have any noteworthy backlinks at all http://www.rechtsanwalt-scheidungen.ch.the other one also doesn’t have different backlinks compared to other competitors (http://www.swissdermaclinic.ch) Still, they rank first for almost every important keyword. I’ve never seen anything like this with any other competitor I know — especially in the beauty industry. Do you know what kind of hidden SEO techniques these two might be using?

Backlinks don’t guarantee top rankings in a niche; they only help build authority if done correctly. In service or product niches, a pattern I’ve noticed from personal experience is that the websites of businesses offering the best service tend to rank higher. If a visitor comes in, places an order, or simply stays without looking for other options, that site will gain better rankings.

Both are German language websites. Are they ranking well for various keywords only in Germany in http://www.google.de or even google.com with default language being German ?
Check how it ranks for the same various keywords on google.com, with default language being German and with a US IP.

If there was such a thing as "hidden" techniques they would just get patched after a few people used them. You should ask yourself what you are in this business for? Is it to produce good content for your visitors and get them to share and return thanks to social media. Or is it just to exploit a hidden techniuq so your crappy blog can rank 1? I say crappy blog, as most people looking for shortcuts, have put little to no effort into their assets. They just want a 5 minute asset, and a one stop easy solution to ranking top! lol dream on bro.

From what I can see, they use it for small PBNs, although it is not showing on ahrefs, and they protected their website with an htaccess file.
I must note something that these are established websites for a long time. They are not brand new, so they push on rankings.
I can help with advice ( for free because I'm not a JR VIP) on how to beat them.

Thanks for your reply. What you mean with an htaccess file? How can we protect our website? How can I get in contact with you for more information?

They might be using strong local signals good UX or CTR strategies. Also check for hidden PBNs or exact match branding effects.

Where can I check the hidden PBNs? What’s your advice / strategy to beat them?

They might be using strong on-page SEO, high topical relevance, optimized internal linking, low-competition keyword targeting, or hidden PBNs (Private Blog Networks). Also, check for Google Business Profile strength, user engagement metrics, and hidden redirects/canonical tricks. A deep technical SEO audit and log file analysis might reveal more. Want me to analyze them further?

My friend, your question is realistic and important. Backlinks are not always main factor for rankings. Sometimes Google focuses on other signal as well. These two sites may use the following techniques-
1. Extreme local SEO optimization
2. UX and Loading speed is very much good
3. High Quality niche focused content
4. Long-form user intend based focus content
5. Strong Local signal and GMB
6. Internal Links and Structures are well optimized

There may not be any secret trick. They might provide service very smartly or focus on local signal. If you want, you can go one step ahead analyzing these above tricks.

Google’s algorithms aggressively penalize manipulative SEO tactics. Instead of risky hidden tricks, focus on sustainable, high-impact strategies that actually work long-term.
