why would I be if I hate them
that's another story for another day

bye

OK. But why are people not willing to spend maybe 10 - 20 USD on a domain? And why are these guys offering domains for $1? Like what's the catch here?

Have you had bad experiences with them? I'm currently looking at an alternative for GoDaddy and was considering porkbun.
Consider going to Cloudflare . Most of mine are there atm.

As for Porkbun
Yes, I had issues with them in the past.
A few years ago
PorkBun has been aggressively trying to build up their user base (totally fine).
Giving out ALOT of freebies and what not.
Including one Christmas, where it gave out .com domains.
That sounds awesome right?
It was, it was so good, it actually crashed the entire PB's servers for days/weeks.
They even aggressively increased security (that's a joke, they just shoved a bot detection captcha and called it a day) & what not since they actually had zero fraud detection involved. No CC, Nothing, just VPN/Proxy + new account = free .com (says alot about their security)

Between their server crashing & increased "bot detection"

Between Unable to get pass the "Bot Detection", dumb ass website kept flagging me as a bot
Yes beep boop i'm totally a bot.
& "password is incorrect" error despite using a password manager...
& when I do a "password recovery", I GET IT 2-3 DAYS LATER... (This is just to a normal outlook email)

I was locked out of my account for nearly the entire of December.
I emailed customer service, but they took foreverrrrrrrr to reply aswell.

I had paid domains with them, and one of them expiring in December. Auto-Renew was also not on either.
I did not lose the domain due to Grace Period, but as a paying customer. I was pretty disappointed.

Actually, that is an understatement, I was utterly disappointed to a point, I transferred all 20something domains out.

This was a few years ago, maybe they are much better now.

Every company messes up here and there, it's all about the long term experience,
I've been using porkbun for years and it's my n1 'go to' for domains so far

For sure
That's why i called them still reputable. ;)
My own experience wasn't good but that doesn't mean they haven't upp'ed their service in the past few years since i left.

I mean... you had a pretty bad experience, but it's not something that ppl associate pb with.

And that's nothing compared to long term hell at ionos, network solutions and godaddy.
