MLM, worth it or stay away?

Hello all, I see quite a few mlm groups while scrolling through FB lately and wondered "is this for me?".
Of course being mlm you got to buy something so others (1-8 people or more) earn a commission and then you can sell or market whatever it is they are pushing.
Some of these things I've seen can easily be over 1k in price just to get your foot in the door. Oh and don't forget the (no guarantees) clause they all have. So you may be buying into a cloud farm that has no clouds.
So really, is it worth it?
Have you been successful selling/marketing for a mlm group or company?

Did not know that. I do know a lot of people frown upon it though as it's very near being a ponzi/pyramid scheme. Was just wondering if the cons outweigh any pros which may be few.

Depends on your skill set. Most marketers succeeding with mlm are good speakers , the company and product type also plays a good part in your success.

Please don't travel down that road. There are plenty of videos on Youtube that will explain the dark side of MLM. Trust me, you don't need the stress or the hassle. I would recommend that you learn how to trade futures, forex, options, etc... You can practice trading virtual funds in a demo account, until you feel comfortable trading with a live account. Also, no talking to strangers, hitting up all your family members to buy XYZ, making 100 calls a day, listening to pep rally calls everyday, blah, blah, blah...It's misery!

Learn everything you can about it, then launch your own company, recruit networkers and sell your own legal product. This is the way to make money with MLM not to be confused by pyramid schemes that is totally another darker game that is not legal.

MLM can work for some people, but it also has risks. Success usually depends on the company, products, compensation plan, and the amount of time and effort a person puts in. Before joining, it’s important to research the company properly, understand how the earnings work, and avoid schemes that focus only on recruitment instead of real products or services.

A cloud farm with no clouds, loved it. Using this site for feedback is legitimate research (IMHO) and there are some great replies. In the US, the no guarantees is a requirement (or some form of it) by the Federal Trade Commission. It seems to me that you have already decided whether it is worth it or not to you. Just follow your heart.
As far as my involvement, I vowed, when I was 19 and idealistic, I would never again get involved in an MLM program that I did not create. I am now 69 and have been involved in about 3 mlm programs that I created. I love the concept, just not the structure that leads with greed. Anyhow, good luck whichever way you decide to go.

MLM is mostly legal but its not a highly respected business model.

I think you have a basic idea of how it works.
It's an exploitative business practice and there's no fair outcome for everyone involved.

If you want to build a respectable brand, and a company with a positive reputation, there are so many other options you can consider.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am building a project with the MLM structure, using a digital product. I am removing the greed from the equation by not paying any staff, no founder payments, all revenue goes to commissions and community food, water and shelter projects. There are some of us who believe in this type of system and are convinced that it can be used for good. I know it is a long shot given the reputation of MLM but I have to do something other than complain. This is not a call to get involved so much as an opportunity to advance discussion and maybe broaden the thoughts about the MLM industry.

The better modern business model for MLM is online based, similar to affiliate marketing, and usually does not involve paying in to join or requiring autoshipping (self-consuming) to participate. The more classic networking model involves high-pressure sales presentations, restrictive rules, and basically recruiting customers into accepting the cult-like premise that everybody you know can/should be approached to become a sales rep for the company.

That latter approach (and some over priced products) is what gave MLM its bad reputation. The promotion of the modern MLM models makes it more doable and likely to work for those naturally inclined towards sales, as they will in turn seek other business oriented people to work with them instead of every Tom, Dick or Harry.

stay away unless you're at the very top of the structure, which you won't be because those spots are already taken. the product is usually overpriced to fund the commissions. the $1k+ buy-in is the business model, not the product itself

MLM is nothing but slavery. You'll always live under pressure to deliver more. You can never be happy and you can never rest. It's better to stay away from it.

You need to be really outgoing person and a good seller in order to work within the MLM structure.

In my experience, the only people who have something good to say about MLMs are people who got into one early and those who got pulled into one recently. Everyone else would tell you to give it a wide berth. Rather telling, isn’t it?
