Anyone with experience opening a multi-member U.S. LLC?

Hey everyone,

As a foreigner who’s not a U.S. resident, I’m looking to open an LLC in New Mexico. After digging around a bit, I found that it’s usually better to make it a multi-member LLC, so I figured I’ll just add my mom with 1% ownership to make it work.

I’m probably going to go with Bizee as the registered agent. Just wondering — besides the registered agent and the operating agreement, is there anything else I need to have ready when I’m starting out?

I also checked out some U.S. freelance lawyers, but most are asking like $500 just for an operating agreement, which feels a bit too much for something this simple. So I’m thinking of using an AI tool to draft it instead. Is that cool, or is it still better to have a human lawyer do it? ChatGPT says it’s fine and that most small businesses don’t need a lawyer unless things get complicated.

Anyone here done something similar or have any advice? Would really appreciate it

go to nolo.com and get their LLC stuff. I used their materials to DIY my divorce, other business stuff... No more than $50...Or you may even be able to torrent it

I’m setting up an LLC mainly to sell on Etsy and use Stripe/PayPal for my online shop — no investors, no U.S. store, just digital. Considering this, do I really need a lawyer for the operating agreement, or is an AI-drafted one fine for something this simple?

Also, I saw a YouTube video saying Mercury no longer works with foreign-owned LLCs. If that’s true, are there any alternatives for non-residents who can’t visit the U.S.?
